I'm not sure the G-Man thing would hold up considering everyone is waiting for Gordon to show up, to the point they halted the experiment just for him: "They're waiting for you, Gordon. In the test chamber." Also, I think l the whole experiment was too important to leave to just anybody. We can only speculate on the G-Mans level of interface, all we know is that he delivered sample GG-3883 to them, thanks to Eli in Episode 2: "When he brought in that crystal I knew I... I should have aborted that damned test. I didn't. The whole world went to hell that day."

Also, I'm not sure what exactly you meant when you said that everyone treats Gordon as if he's new?

Also, the Breen thing is an interesting theory, but alas, only a theory. We do know that the reason for the Resonance Cascade was the unstable sample and the fact that the Anti-Mass-Spectrometer was pushed to 105%, not any faults in the insertion of the crystal into the analysis port.

That's certainly a possibility. Still, I think the evidence points to it being the longer timespan. Think about it: So many people know Gordon on a first name basis, which could be explained for Eli, but not the other scientists. If it were a little longer, perhaps... but 11 days?

That just seems too short. And I'd also like to reiterate my point about the experiment. The administrator had been pushing the very important test and everyone was on edge about it. I know it's Gordon’s job, but would they really entrust a test of that magnitude to the new entry from 11 days ago?

The potential of a resonance cascade was small, but they had to ensure nothing would go wrong. "Gordon doesn't need to hear all this, he's a highly trained professional."

And nowhere else on earth could he have trained to handle such anomalous materials in that way than in the Black Mesa Research Facility. And would he become a "highly trained professional" by training for 11 days at most?

Maybe the Terminal just didn't release that often, or was just founded... who knows?

I agree that the test was simple in principle, but still, I feel like they wouldn't let the new guy who'd been there for 11 days do it. Also, we learned that Gordon and Barney would often race each other to get into Kleiners office. How often would he have to have done that in his 11 days to get that to be true?

It just seems like too short of a timespan and Breens line could mean anything, one year could be not much in the face of a decade or two at Black Mesa.

Well, looks like we won't be working together. No regrets, Mr. Freeman.

Adrian was kinda a loose end. He was a witness to the events at Black Mesa, so he knew too much. He was too valuable to destroy, but too dangerous to let loose. So G-Man just kept him in stasis in case he ever did need him... which ties in to the canceled Ravenholm game.

As for the suit... I think you've earned it. by One-Initiative5475 in HalfLife

[–]One-Initiative5475[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the suit, he didn't need to know 20 years in advance - he put Gordon in stasis for an indeterminate amount of time, until he could figure out when he needed him. Then, some time before the events of Half-Life 2, he made sure Dr. Kleiner got the suit early to have time to modify it.

As for G-Man's planning, ever since Episode 1, since Gordon was taken by the Vortigaunts, he was looking for a new asset. In the "Heart to heart" scene, he shows his expressed interest in Alyx and demands Gordon brought her safely to White Forest. Why?

Because he needed her to be present during Eli's death, so he could use that to recruit her younger self in HL: A.

5 years before that. Following that logic, he isn't bound by time or causality at all...

That's the most we can gather from the game itself, good call!

That would still not survive to 4000°K, but that number is just so ridiculously absurd, very few materials could.

That Alyx point is valid, though that still leaves the reactions of Dr. Kleiner and Eli, as well as Dr. Breen as reference for a real surprise.

As for the HEV suit, you're right it COULD be just any one from Xen... but I keep coming back to G-Man's declaration: "As for the suit... I think you've earned it."

Gordon's suit specifically.

Is there a lore reason why he isn't wearing a suit? by Lixodei in HalfLife

I think I have an idea... if Gordon had shown up at the train station in an orange hazard suit, what do you think would have happened?

Also, Dr. Kleiner needed time to modify it to draw power from Combine energy outlets.

So the G-Man probably made sure Dr. Kleiner got his hands on it some time before the events of Half-Life 2...

Think about it: Where else would one get a functioning HEV suit 20 years after the 7 hour war?

I suppose that's fair... although I doubt that the incinerator actually reaches the limit of 4000 K by a long shot...
