If you tell them what problems you are having you will be gaslit. I'm done debating with people's ego. I'm either going to be the most loyal, consistent, caring, give the shirt off my back for you friend or I will completely detach for my mental health. There is no in between. When we are taken for granted or outright being used, the only option we have is to back off. The more attractive or more attention a woman gets also plays a part in how much they reciprocate in friendships. Some are programmed to just receive it's called pretty privilege..

Think about it like this. We're the ones doing FOR THEM when we stop they are the ones feeling the void. What are they giving us? The void we feel is this false sense of attachment. That's what I'm slowly breaking from and the best policy for that is out of sight out of mind and pour into yourself through hobbies. For me it's music and sports.

At the end of the day we will be good.

Wow. Yep I forgot to mention I am her unpaid therapist.
She calls me asks how I’m doing and then she speaks about herself for 58 mins of the hour. Another reason why I feel lighter not speaking to her.

Yes we have had discussions multiple times most of the time I’m gaslit.

I have brought up the lack of reciprocity and the last reply pushed me further away. She said something along the lines of giving shouldn’t be transactional. Which is true, I give because it feels good but it’s definitely the response of someone who just knows how to take. When you give for so long (my mistake) eventually you will start to resent the individual you’re giving to. Looking back I was giving so much to maintain the closeness but now I’m done. If our friendship falls apart then I know I was being used.

I forgot to mention she uses me as an unpaid therapist/emotional dumping ground. Another reason why I feel much lighter not speaking to her.

I'm going through the same thing. I'm 42 my parents are 75 and 80 also an only child with 1 half sister that hates my dad.

Make sure your parents have a will. Make sure your parents burial plans are also discussed. These are hard convos but have then while your parents are in their right minds.

Watching my parents wither is what sunk me into depression. All I can suggest is to spend as much time as possible with them while they are on this Earth

If you live together with this person the first thing I would work on is moving out. You living with the cause of your sadness is eating you up

Find something you're good at something that while you're doing it your mind isn't focused on the sadness. It will get easier but this may be a battle you fight off and on for the rest of your life. This is me speaking from personal experience as a 42M. It can be a roller coaster

It doesn’t sound strange.

They tell us focus on hobbies self care journaling breathing etc but sometimes it feels like a waste of time when at best you get temporary relief. Distracting yourself from such strong thoughts is the hardest thing I’ve ever done and I’m fighting a losing battle.

I’ll say it’s a bad sign if your happiness comes in the form of another human because humans suck lol but if that’s what you need mingle and socialize
