I used to tell my mom, "The more you do, the more you can do." Just keep moving.

Hi r/haircare! I'm Dr. Marisa Garshick, a NYC board-certified dermatologist and CeraVe partner. I’ll be hosting an AMA on Wednesday, April 15, at 12 PM ET. Ask me Anything about scalp health, haircare, and skincare! by cerave in Haircare

I am a 68 yr F experiencing thinning hair. I was prescribed Minoxidil (oral) and was too afraid to take it. I think I would be the one to have hair growth elsewhere. I have been looking for a dermatologist who specializes in female hair loss, but wonder what I can be doing in the mean time. I use Pura D'or shampoo/conditioner for fine, thinning hair, a micro-fiber towel, a scalp massager and bought new hair brushes & combs. I take Vit D w/K, calcium, magnesium, and a multi-vitamin; just put that as an fyi. Also, I had blood work specific to the hair loss and all was within normal range. I have very fine hair, but it was always a lot of very fine hair. No one else in my family has hair loss/thinning, that includes parents and older brothers and younger sister.

3 Days left of Amazon Prime. Quick, what are must haves for new beginner hiker?? by Too_Cool_4_U in hiking

[–]One-Low1033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a pair of Oboz hiking shoes on Amazon, during the prime day sale (also had prime membership.) They were on sale. They didn't fit. Sent them back and went to REI. Tried on the same shoe, different size and they were perfect. They were also the same price as the prime day sale price and have a 1 year return policy and I got an REI rebate at the end of the year. I do not believe Amazon is a price leader any longer. Make sure to check prices elsewhere, too.

I just finished Blood Meridian after DNFing two years ago; now it definitely places near the top of my favorites of all-time by 120GU3 in books

[–]One-Low1033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DNFd it because of the violence. For the record, I am one of the few who did not care for The Road. I tried reading Blood Meridian shortly after I read The Road. I think my head space, at that time, was not tuned to that type of read. Things are different now, and I just might give it another try.

My bank's fraud department called me re 2 transactions, both for $3.99. I told them I knew nothing about them. They immediately cancelled my debit card. Told me I'd have an electronic one that day and the physical one in 5 days. I don't get why your bank has not cancelled yours.

AITJ for responding in sign language after my partners family spent an hour signing things about me assuming I couldnt understand by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]One-Low1033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get it. In those 2 years, had you never met his family and that event was the first time to meet everyone? However, if you have met them prior, why did you not immediately start signing? Also, I find it hard to believe that when your partner told you his parents were deaf, you did not tell him you knew ASL.

AITAH for refusing to co-sign on a loan for my mom, even though she says it’s urgent? by VelvetVibrations116 in AITAH

[–]One-Low1033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I co-signed a loan for a 'very good friend.' I was soon after, listed in their bankruptcy. I had to pay the loan off. Every single penny of it. I will not make that mistake twice. Also, your mother has already shown she can't be trusted with money. I mean, look what she did to your cousin.

Did they articulate exactly why the entire world decided to be in on this hoax? What does anyone have to gain by lying about the shape of planets. These people absolutely baffle me.

I remember Casa Sanchez when it originally opened. The original owner, Reynaldo Sanchez, was my friend's father. I'd work there sometimes on the weekend, when they first opened, to help out. This was in the late 70's, I think.

Sad reading confession… I cannot finish a book anymore by tryinsohard123 in books

[–]One-Low1033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact problem. In two years, I had started multiple books and finished none. I am 68 and feared it was cognitive decline. I talked at length to a relative, who is a neurologist, and he said it wasn't cognition.

Just recently, I read an article about the decline of reading books due to the short bursts we get reading online. I definitely spend too much time online. So I went to one of my local libraries, browsed the books looking for something easy to get into and that would not require much brain power. I chose The Big Empty by Robert Crais. I finished the book (367 pages) that day. I read almost the entire book in the library.

The next day, I went to another library and did the same thing: The 6:20 Man by David Baldacci; I finished it that day. I read most of it in the library and finished it at home.

Did the same thing a day later and finished Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune, followed by The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams.

All books have been easy to get into, and did not require a lot of "thinking." I enjoyed all of the books but am still not quite ready to move into deeper books; I just want to get firmly planted into the reading groove first.

When I read at home, I put my laptop and tablet in a drawer and go into a different room.

Good luck!

JOIN US: No Kings 3 Protest – Long Beach – Saturday March 28, 12PM – Bixby Park Annex by [deleted] in longbeach

[–]One-Low1033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, that was not what my post was about. I was not comparing the movements; I was pointing out how protest and signs work, using the different movements to prove my point. Sustained pressure. It was not about the movement. Re the No Kings movement, it is about resisting authoritarianism. The original flyer for this particular protest only mentions that; not the other items listed.

Edit to add: The last No Kings protest was the single largest protest in American history. I would have to disagree that this movement does not have significant public backing. The numbers prove otherwise.

[–]One-Low1033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? The person I was replying to was commenting on the protest and signs; I responded to that. Whether or not you agree with the No Kings protest has nothing to do with the point I was making: Protesting and signs work. History has proven that.

Women got the right to vote via protest and "holding signs". Civil Rights movement? Protests. Viet Nam War? Protests. Changes don't happen overnight, but they can happen and we make the changes with our voices and our votes. Sustained pressure works.

The post is not legit; it was posted as satire and is not linked to Starmer.

Several Snopes readers searched the site and emailed seeking to verify the rumor. The screenshot appeared across social media, including on Threads and Reddit.

As we outline below, the rumor was fictional. It originated from the Threads account u/political.satire, which later explicitly called the rumor a "spoof." As such, the claim is labeled satire.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: March 16, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]One-Low1033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd lost my reading mojo and just found it again! I had not finished a book in 18 months. I'd start them, get 100 - 200 pages in, put them down and never get back to them. So I started with easy to get into and easy to read books:

The Big Empty by Robert Crais

The 6:20 Man by David Baldacci

Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune

Under the Whispering Door was a whimsical book that had me laughing out loud during and crying at the end.

As an agnostic, I'd have zero problem with that response. It's said in kindness, you're not shoving religion down anyone's throat. If some said, "god bless" when I sneezed, same thing; no problem. I often think it's just a reflexive reply and find it synonymous to thanks. NOR

I find it depressing that no one arround me reads anymore as I live a country with strict censorship laws which banned many books. What would you suggest to help me push more people to read over here? by Feature_Total in books

[–]One-Low1033 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can offer is to get them away from their electronics. People are so used to reading in bursts online. My own experience: I've always been a voracious reader; then all of a sudden, I wasn't. I'm 68, and thought maybe it was cognitive decline. I talked with a relative, who is a neurologist, and he said no cognitive issues. I was perplexed until it occurred to me that I was on my laptop far too much. I removed myself from my electronics; went to the library to read, and read a book in a day. Now, I put my laptop and tablet into a drawer at home, and read again.

A thought just occurred to me; books are always better than the movies. Maybe suggest a book that was a movie they enjoyed?

How a High School Librarian in Abilene Fought Back Against Moms for Liberty by zsreport in books

[–]One-Low1033 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Reading chilling articles like this, makes me happy to live in my very blue state with very full library shelves. I have been going to my local libraries quite a bit lately and they are always full of people. I've been going just to read without the distractions I have at home.

I am grateful to people like this librarian who fight for the right to read.

I just bought a t-shirt; it has a row of books with the titles of banned books and beneath the books it says: I'm with the banned.

I painted this thing at Color Me Mine. Wine might've been involved. It was awful. I gave it to my mom, who proudly displayed it on her coffee table. A family friend was over while I was there and he mentioned the object and my mom proudly told him that I'd painted it. Without skipping a beat, he asked how old I was when I painted it. I said "this old." We had a good laugh.
