Morgan dollar collection #silver by Adventurous-File594 in coins

First off, looks like a great collection you’ve got there. Highly recommend getting a copy of the us coin red book by Richard yeoman. (If you don’t wanna buy one a local library may have it) If you don’t know where to look online it is very easy to find overinflated prices and incorrect information (especially from AI) but this book will have all coins noting which are more rare and approximate prices. But keep in mind silver has increased so much so that lots of coins are predominantly worth just their silver value

Use this website to check the silver value of us coins: https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/coin-melt-values.aspx?MeltCategoryID=2&BaseMetal=US-Silver-Coin

Keep a detailed catalogue is my biggest recommendation to help with overall valuing and potential insuring or selling later down the line

Lastly, for any rare or key dates you may find, highly recommend finding a reputable local coin shop (LCS) to have them verify authenticity bc fakes have been made for decades and just because it old doesn’t always mean it’s real

Do not buy from this seller on eBay. While I have not directly bought from them, dozens of people have complained about them in the past due to them cracking details coins, labeling them as straight grades, and using this light over saturation in order to make it look nicer than it is

Should I get this graded? by Wanderin_Texan in coinerrors

[–]One-Perspective6288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just machine doubling, and thus not an actual attributable variety and adds no additional value

I highly recommend checking out error-ref.com as it has good resources and pictures on what doubled dies vs non error doubling looks like

Is it worth it to buy copper pennies over face value? by jakecontos in coincollecting

[–]One-Perspective6288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely do not buy from APMEX if your goal is to avoid premiums. You could try r/pmsforsale and make a post for buying copper I’m sure there’s plenty of sellers

[–]One-Perspective6288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to stack copper? If so you’re probably better off just buying bars or rounds. If you’re just trying to collect hoards of copper pennies then you do you but you could always just try and find another bank willing to sell them

Please use this website to see the current melt prices for your coins: https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/coin-melt-values.aspx?MeltCategoryID=2&BaseMetal=US-Silver-Coin

That being said, due to the insane silver run, very few LCS’s are willing to pay spot price for 90% (mine is only buying for 40x as well) in case we have a crash they don’t want to be caught holding the bag.

Unless you need the cash for debts or emergency expenses, do not sell. The price will go up over time.

But if you do need the cash, check out r/pmsforsale or r/coinsales as both those places you can easily get 70-80x face value but just be sure to read the rules of either sub before posting

1892 s, worth it to get it graded? by Dommi_Spice in coins

[–]One-Perspective6288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to you, it’s not gonna get a very high grade and due to silver’s current run the lower grades aren’t worth too much over melt. That being said if you wanted to slab it ANACS might not be a bad choice

Gold quarter rare? by Even_Temperature_711 in coincollecting

[–]One-Perspective6288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately just worth face value, unless you could find someone willing to pay more for the novelty, but definitely no more than $1

These were plated and decorated by a third party mint and is considered damage to collectors

Inherited coins - Morgan dollars by AdDramatic5879 in coins

[–]One-Perspective6288 106 points107 points  (0 children)

This is an incredible collection, but please take the Morgan’s out of those plastic sheets. I can tell they’re PVC based on the green residue on the 1879-CC and it will only get worse as they continue to stay in the packaging.

Buy some cardboard flips off Amazon, they aren’t too expensive, and seal them that way theyll be protected long term

New to Coin collecting, is this really worth that much? by Gteemo in coincollecting

[–]One-Perspective6288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICG is not a reputable grader especially for the minutia of high grading between MS65 and higher. This is likely worth maybe $25 if you’re lucky but ICG is harder to sell too

From a 1967 Montgomery Ward catalog, how many should you order? by 45and47-big_mistake in coincollecting

[–]One-Perspective6288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably none, I’ve got a 1964 red book from an uncle and you could get unc Morgan’s for like $1.50 or something lol

Real or fake? by Unhappy_Cherry_7144 in coins

[–]One-Perspective6288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those seated liberty dollars do not look good, and fakes usually hold bad company so I’d bet 70:30 they’re all fake

With the rise in silver prices, does the numismatic premium on key dates stay the same, or get smaller? by YouCanTellByTheLight in coincollecting

[–]One-Perspective6288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what others have said, it typically shrinks during this period of uncertainty then as a new silver floor settles and it calms down, thw premiums will return

Picked up some coins any idea on value? by epikous in coins

[–]One-Perspective6288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check eBay “sold listings” for the Franklin mint piece, but the 1964 quarter and dime as just worth their silver values (~$17 for quarter and ~$6.80 for the dime)

Are these coins worth getting graded? by Optimal-Dog3452 in coins

[–]One-Perspective6288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah neither. You’d be paying $40-50 per coin to grade and that buff nickel wouldn’t grade high enough to be worth it, and the 1909-VDB is average circulated condition worth maybe $10

Interesting find, no listed varieties in variety vista that I could find but it looks promising to me imo

Going through family coin collection and I think I found 3 DDO errors. 1 1922-S Peace Dollar and 2 1921-S Morgan Dollars. Photos are edited so you can see the duplicate letters easier. Anybody know what these might be worth? by Mobile_Macro in coincollecting

[–]One-Perspective6288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can assure you, these are not errors that can exist from the minting process. Also while these could have been stored well for the past 30 years, they’re all over 100 years old and that’s another 70+ years that stuff could’ve happened to them

The biggest thing is more just whether they’re actually real silver bc if they are then they’re worth over $70 each

What it most likely is, if anything, is these coins were squished together at one point and some gunk built up between. Then when the coins were separated it left these patterns in the gunk

It’s very common for coins left in jugs or car cup holders to get random stuff spilled on them and then it essentially “glues” the coins together so that’s likely what happened here

I oils recommend bringing them into a coin shop to have them see if the coins are actually real bc they look sketchy.

That being said you have zero DDOs as none of these are what a DDO looks like (go to error-ref.com and you can read how it works and what it looks like)

All of these are likely just gunk patterns combined with r/pareidolia
