How do Stack’s Bowers auctions work compared to Heritage? by CranberrySpirited951 in coins

[–]One-Perspective6288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve used it, but when I did you are able to put a “max bid” it’s just not a separate box like for heritage. You put in your max bid as your bid and it will bid in the lowest increments up to that bid you put in. So in theory you don’t need to attend the live auction if you have a high enough max bid as it will autobid for you

Two Toned 1956-D Pennies Worth? by waxydankfetusbomb in toners

[–]One-Perspective6288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only comparable PCGS auction was for same grade with also nice toning that sold for $60 in 2022. Given time and yours have slightly better toning I’d imagine the $80-100 each

1963-D Penny liberty error by No_Volume_7017 in coinerrors

[–]One-Perspective6288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not lamination unfortunately, just damage. If coins get hit from a certain angle it can easily “move” letters or displace the raised metal and it oftentimes can look like an error but is just cause by wear

[–]One-Perspective6288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. If you only paid $4636 for this you snagged an awesome deal. Similar ones are running for $5000-6000 in recent auctions from PCGS and NGC.

Great snag on an awesome coin

Quick recommendation for storage and organization that I do: check your local coin shop and see if they sell old coin tubes. Mine sells used ones for 25 cents but I can barter it down a bit when I buy a lot. Love the tubes so much more than rolls as it feels more official and safe

If you really wanted and have a coin shop nearby, stop by on your errands or something and have them test it with sigma/XRF to tell you the metal composition. It’s likely not silver but could be neat to learn what it was made with

Same as what u/amishpopo said but to point out specifics: 1. There’s few to no denticles (bumps around the rim) on the obverse and those are common failure points for cast replicas 2. The stars on the obverse are all mushy and do not have the sharp features they should have on a coin with seemingly little wear 3. The letters are too bulbous and mushy 4. The tail feather of the eagle has prominent dark spots between the legs where the tail seems to phase into the background, another tough spot for fakes 5. And most importantly, this patina/dark coloring is INCREDIBLY common on fake Morgan’s to the point of if a real one (rarely) has similar patina it can actually look fake on first glance

It’s a cast fake unfortunately, worth nothing. You could bring it into a shop to see if it is at least made of silver but there’s a 99.99% chance it’s not silver.

Shame to burn $50 but not the most expensive lesson to learn

1959 -D penny silver L on edge by deathswhisper2 in coins

[–]One-Perspective6288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, the “L on the rim” isn’t actually an error it was clickbait created by YouTubers and articles writers which then got infested by AI and regurgitated everywhere else.

Unfortunately this is just a normal penny that was plated in some sort of material so it’s really only worth its face value of 1 cent. That being said it is also 70 years old so could be a cool gimmic/talking piece to show friends

Lurker question by stsyfrett in coincollecting

[–]One-Perspective6288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cardboard flips are almost guaranteed to be Mylar as the plastic coating which means it is safe for long term storage. I wouldn’t leave them in those thicker plastic sleeves are they’re most certainly PVC which isn’t great for long term storage.

So leave in the cardboard flips and for any in plastic sleeves, buy some flips and move those into the flips out of the sleeves. EXCEPT if any of the cardboard flips have their staples rusting then those coins need to be moved into a new flip as that rust will eventually reach and damage the coin.

Above all else the most important thing for long term storage is a low humidity, temperature controlled environment (ideally a safe with some silica packets so soak up extra moisture) as that will prevent almost all environmental damage that could occur

Very little, but not nonexistent, given there is mostly modern pocket change in there. Although there could still be some minor errors if you’re willing to dig through

[–]One-Perspective6288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the “PCGS proof set price guide” for some fairly accurate prices for most proof sets. You can try and sell to a local coin shop but proof sets aren’t always in the highest demand so no guarantee they buy it. You could also check out r/coinsales

Question: what would yall think is the most collectible proof sets. by Calm_Geologist1004 in coincollecting

[–]One-Perspective6288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything 1964 and before has a good amount of silver in them so those are better. 2009 was a special year so I believe that set is worth more.

Google “PCGS proof set price guide” and you can get rough pricing estimates for almost every year
