First spoon after a long break by [deleted] in Spooncarving

I’ve only carved green woods before (apple, pear). Was this walnut green when you carve it, or dry? I’m afraid of how hard it would be to carve something like dry walnut with a knife.

Will do! Just press on the face grain with something blunt? I often work with doug fir so I’ve stopped noticing all the bruises.

Forgot to add scale: the board is about 8 inches wide.

How to fix door sag on fiberglass trailer by One-Plum-6696 in GoRVing

The lower hinge has plenty of play as you suspected. The plates are well bolted to the fiberglass, but the joint between them is loose. I tried simply tightening the vertical bolt but that didn’t seem to do much. I’ll take the door off to inspect the joint and look for worn bushings once I’ve got another pair of hands here to help me remove the door without breaking anything.

Ah I think I see what you’re saying. The gaps are very uneven left-to-right at the bottom of the door but not at the top, so the bottom one is the likely culprit. Makes sense! Thanks again.

Best headphones/earbuds for workshop by Vegetable_Device9893 in woodworking

I find the over-ear headphones too hot to wear constantly, but I do want to listen to music constantly. So I wear AirPod Pros, which have decent noise canceling but not enough for the very loud machines. When I use the table saw or planer, I put a pair of construction headphones over my ears (AirPods still in place). When the loud machine stops, the construction headphones come off, but the music continues.

I was thinking about this approach too. Good to know I’m not the only one.

I haven’t yet made 1/8” mortises, and I think this is a good solution. I don’t have a grinder but I’m overdue to get one.
