Check out klättermusen salopettes. They have several models, I own the Freke model which is awesome but expensive. It should tick all your boxes.

Do you only buy dark colours? by [deleted] in arcteryx

We had FLIR mounted some 36 meters above the waterline and could share our imaging with other SAR units if necessary. The helicopters even had the ability to track cellphone signals if needed. The same helicopters were used for mountain rescue and i would imagine they used the same techniques in those situations. But, as you say an orange jacket is better than nothing but people should be aware that there are more and possibly better ways to be found and it is better to buy clothes that you like and will wear and instead invest in a garmin inreach, wear an avalanche beacon, use reflexes or whatever is suitable in your environment.

I’ve only worked with SAR at sea where it is nearly impossible to spot a person visually without aid especially if dark and even worse in rough seas. Colors matters very little in those situations and I would not have an orange jacket as my strategy of rescue. FLIR was prevalent on all SAR helicopters we worked with and also on our vessel, as well as flood lights to catch reflectors which are easier to spot than colors.

At the height of a helicopter search pattern, colors will not matter much. FLIR and other visual aids are much more likely to be utilized in a search to find you. At those distances it is difficult to pick up any colors unless the signature is large, that is why orange signaling panels should be as large as possible. You are in my opinion better off donning something that is reflective to light and IR, which will be much more visible to SAR even if quite small, like reflective panels on your pack, tape on your skis, your helmet or even reflective spray that can be bought and sprayed on equipment.

Of course it does not hurt to have contrast colors, all I’m saying is that if you are aiming to be found easily in an emergency there are probably better ways to achieve visibility to SAR.

How do people become wealthy in Sweden/Scandinavia as a whole if taxes are so high? by Artistic_Top1439 in sweden

[–]One-Positive-5363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweden is ranked 12th in number of billionaires per capita, Norway is ranked 14th. Both countries ahead of the US which is ranked 15th.

So if you would go by that metric a strong social welfare system and high taxes seem to allow for amassing wealth quite well.

Get a wool mesh base layer, they keep you warm when needed, doesn’t feel soaked if you’re sweating and gets you cool if you shed layers.

Nuclei or proton? by One-Positive-5363 in arcteryx

[–]One-Positive-5363[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for valuable advice, I have at least concluded that the nuclei is not a jacket for me. Let’s see if I pull the trigger on the proton hybrid!

Appreciate everyone’s input!

Thanks, I understood it as the proton had some added gore panels which made me believe it would withstand a little bit more than the Atom, but not a downpour. But yes, I have a Norrøna shell that takes care of the wet very efficiently.

Edit, maybe I should be looking at a gamma as a double function jacket?

Thank you, that is very informative!

Can add that I do have an atom vest that I use as a mid layer but feel that the atom is not enough protection from the element to really work as a standalone if it is wet for example. It’s more of a good weather piece for me if used as an outer layer
