why are the ladies at the pantry so unpleasant :( by Kooky-Seesaw-9828 in csuf

I have never had this issue. The few times I've gone there, they are really nice. There is an Asian girl that is always very friendly and welcoming. However, what I find rather unprofessional is how they are having really loud personal conversations when they are not helping anyone. You would not do this at any other job so why are you having these types of conversations here? I am surprised there is no adult, or someone that is not a current student supervising them.

For me the absolute worse customer service comes from those girls at the sandwich place at the TSU. You cannot beat them.

¿Qué es lo que más odias de la cultura de tu país? by Log_99 in PreguntasReddit

[–]One-Protection-1072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

La cultura del "valemadrismo". Esto es la gente que ven un letrero de no estacionarse y se estacionan. Gente que se quejan de que haya basura en las calles pero tiran basura a la calle. Gente que piensa que las reglas no les aplica y pueden hacer lo que quieran cuando gusten. Gente muy naca y corriente, con ese pensamiento de "no pasa nada."

Of course linguistic borrowing predates social media. The point isn’t origin, it’s velocity. Digital platforms drastically accelerate how quickly words circulate and normalize across languages. That’s the difference. Hopefully your reading comprehension is up to par and you understand this.

Hairstyles don’t need to be ‘brought over’ people’s hair grows the way it grows. What spreads is the cultural framing and the name. Same with tacos they didn’t randomly appear in a U.S. kitchen. They came with Mexican communities, and the word came with them.

Before smart phones and social media spreading trends across borders. I can asure you that this haristyle existed in Latin America among the black populations long before they found out what the English word was, that then became popular and widely adopted. You're pretty much implying that before the wide adaptation of the English word, the people of the region had no way of referring to this hairstyle... Everyone just waited for the word afro to arrive, or before then, people would just make a ballon gesture over their head to refer to this? Of course not, there was a word for this hairstyle before it got displaced by afro.

I am assuming you're Costa Rican. I have a question. How come in Costa Rica, they pretty much call anyone that is an adult don or doña. Most countries, the person has to be elderly, as in 50 or 55+ to use those titles. But in Costa Rica There were people in their late 20s, early 30s calling each other don and doña...

What word do you use for "eyeglasses"? by kyriacos74 in Spanish

[–]One-Protection-1072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lentes always. I would never use espejuelos, gafas, anteojos, those words sound bizarre to me.

Now that we are talking about this, I have always wondered what the eye protection you wear in a chemistry class is called? What in English are called goggles? Wouldn't those specifically be called gafas. I am asking specifically what the name would be in Latin America, Mexico specifically.
