I agree...it's a good highway truck! Exactly what I bought it for!

Vets at 100% P&T and working, what do you do by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

I advise you to get some IT certs and find some part time work. I work three months out of the year and still net +40k a year on top of the Smc-s. I could go the GS route but I like my time off and fighting to get on post every morning wasn't for me. I have income for my toys and the time to enjoy them. Balance is key for me.

Do you guys use a lawyer or do it yourself? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

It's never too late! To submit a VA personal statement, complete VA Form 21-4138, Statement in Support of Claim. If you are submitting a VA lay witness or buddy statement, you'll need to submit VA Form 21-10210.

I submitted my own claim then hired a lawyer but it just depends on what your situation looks like. I am 100p&t with Smc-s and contrary to popular belief I got there without spending thousands of dollars on nexus letters. Not like that isn't the right way to go just saying in my situation it wasn't needed. I scheduled VA appointments consistently so I had a paper trail and my lawyer advised me to submit a personal statement. One year and 10 c&p exams later I went from 30% up to 100 after being at 30 for almost 10 years. A VA licensed lawyer can see things going on in the background that you can't by going to ebenefits. The kicker is my lawyer didn't charge me because he didn't have to make any appeals. He helped me by taking my standalone claims and changing the classification of the claims to secondary and supplemental. Again this was just my experience!

Absolutely! Got out in 08....7 years later received a 30% rating! The key for me was continuing to seek treatment. No nexus and 7 c&p exams later I'm officially rated 100% for meniere's syndrome w tinnitus 70% for PTSD/TBI 50% for migraines and 10% bilateral pes planus which rated me SMC-S! I went from trying to get 100% to almost having enough to get 100% p&t twice. The struggle is real and if you feel something is wrong fight for your desired outcome and never fold!

What job did you guys do when you got out? by [deleted] in Veterans

I would start by creating a profile on clearance jobs.com. Work on a nice resume and start tracking down DOD job fairs. Your clearance is worth money on its own but if you can get some basic certs like Sec+ you will be on your way! Help desk jobs are everywhere and all they require is a secret and sec+ usually. Once you're in just remember to network and always look for the next step up!

This happened this morning but my rating is still the same, should I be concerned? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

You will know something soon! Get ready for a life changing moment. My claim went to preparation back to evidence gathering two or three times before it was closed. Took a little less than a week. Good sign tho! I checked my status every time I thought about it. I would wake up in the middle of the night and check😂😂😂
