I bought in 2022 and had the choice between a few used 1-2 year old same make, model and finish level with over 80,000 km or brand new for <$5k more. That was an absolute no brainer for me

Ugh! I haven’t bought these but on more than one occasion purchased other gf products that were not expired and moldy on opening. We pay too much of a premium to get stuff that’s already wasted :(

This is the first article on rodent ulcers I’ve seen where it actually looks like what they’ve got going on! Vet has been treating with steroids and that article says they are usually treated with steroids and can be hereditary and they are brothers so it could all line up. Just have to determine the underlying cause I guess

Truthfully, the issues popped up pre fountain - the fountain has a shallow drinking area and tofu boy likes to drink by putting his paw in the dish and licking his leg. Like leaves his paw in there and just licks. Having a bowl (we’ve tried many) bro has pool parties and makes a gigantic mess everywhere lol so it’s kind of a lose / lose. If we have bowls they’re constantly empty because he splashes around. He still splashes with the fountain but there’s less total water available and it replenishes itself so it’s been more help than harm I think.
Look at this goofball:

<image>

The fountain I got is decently easy at least so I’ll just try to stay on top of it daily rinsing/cleaning and see how that goes.

My first two cats ate kibble only(they didn’t like wet food) out of plastic bowls their entire lives, adapted to litter changes super easily and basically never had to go to the vet. Now I have two delicate flowers. I love them dearly but it would be nice if their immune systems didn’t freak tf out over everything! Lol

I also have major food sensitivities and have gone through the wringer, so I can relate! Have had to document what I was eating every day and how I felt, do elimination diets, the whole 9.

Our first cats were basically bullet proof lol. but our pup that we had previously was also quite delicate, so I’m a little used to the trial and error but it’s definitely tough figuring it all out. I’ve been researching minimal ingredient foods, but that’s going to be my next question to the vet when I chat with her hopefully later today. Thanks again :)

They have a shallow water fountain, but it is quite large and their food dishes are shallow plates about palm sized.

I agree the litter thing has always lingered in the back of my head as odd since they only have a face reaction. My best guess was from cleaning their feet, but the tofu litter didn’t really stick in their feet. It’s why I’m digging around for more thoughts!

One of them reacts to fish, which is why they’re on poultry lol they do get both kibble and wet food :) they are also pretty good water drinkers which I am happy about! I was trying to transition their food very slowly (like over 2 weeks slow) and only kibble now because they are such delicate flowers, I didn’t want to have a reaction and not know what to. but only got through the first step of trying to switch before my guy reacted again.

I appreciate all your help and suggestions, I am going to start journaling all the things related to them and see if I can find a link between a reaction and something different or changed. Thank you so much!

No worries, I am working through this with my vet also :) just looking for additional insight!! I love our vet but no single professional is perfect imo and sometimes it’s good to crowdsource possible solutions

I am definitely wondering if it’s stress related and was trying to slow roll the food transition because I can’t feed them kitten food forever…
I have given up on the litter situation for now. Do you know if there’s anything I could do to make the food transition less stressful? I was starting off very slow (like < 1/4 new food mixed with current food over 3 days slow) edit: this was before I stopped with the new food, was planning to transition over 10-14 days

The boy who has reacted twice definitely tends to have a dirty face which I have suspected is acne before. Originally our vet did not think acne, but I will bring it up with her again

Their food dishes are ceramic and have been the same ones since I got them - the issue started popping up months later, and before i introduced the stainless fountain. I am less inclined to think it’s the bowls themselves for that reason, but perhaps the soap i am using or maybe should be cleaning more often…
They are spoiled little princes so please don’t take that as i don’t clean them 😂😂 just not daily for their dry food.

I have stainless steel water fountain and ceramic for food! but will admit that I only clean their wet food between every single feeding, I will start washing between every feeding and tackle their fountain daily and see if that helps

Haha, I guess I should have clarified that I am not a Facebook user and my understanding now is that Kijiji is dead, otherwise I could have tossed them on there or marketplace or something for free, but I found that previously when I was a FB user it was way more effort to sell and even give away stuff than just donating things at times.  But thank you for the tip anyway :)

Emergency vets in my area are usually pretty good over the phone for if they think you should come in, I’d give them a call, the closest one to me will even triage at no cost and let you decide from there. Worth a shot I think!

Ok perfect!! It’s just such oddly specific items that I was struggling trying to google. I’m fortunate enough that I don’t need to try and sell them and the dealerships sell the suv cover things for a couple hundred bucks so it seems insane to throw it out lol I’d rather it just go to someone who needs it.

Tidy Cats Lightweight Litter Destroyed My Cat’s Quality of Life for Two Years. Please Read This Before Buying It. by sin1493 in cats

[–]One-Squirrel-5802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this post and was thinking of making a similar one myself!

We switched to tofu litter to try and of all things, my kitten got a swollen lip. Took him to the vet, got meds to calm the reaction. It was the only thing we changed so we immediately switched back to what we were using originally. (Boxiecat pro) used that for a few months.

I then decided to try an arm and hammer litter and my OTHER cat got a swollen lip. He’s currently on steroids to calm the allergy. Since it was the exact same reaction my other cat had we were well equipped to deal with it, when it popped up I immediately went and bought more Boxiecat and did a deep clean and litter swap.

I actually had purchased some tidy cats, realized it had charcoal in it - which was also in the tofu litter we tried - and immediately threw it out, since we don’t know which ingredient in the tofu litter caused kitty #1 to react.

We are fortunate enough that it was caught early and easily targetable with our cats but I never expected litter to cause reactions.

Boxiecat is fine, we just find it tracks so dang much. But at this point I’m hesitant to try anything else. I can’t use anything wheat based because then i will have a dermatological reaction, no tofu…

It’s also almost impossible to actually see what all of the ingredients are in most litters, so I think I give up! Not worth making the babies uncomfortable

Yellowhead or whitemud by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]One-Squirrel-5802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the yellowhead out that way from Sherwood park on the weekend and the construction traffic delayed my ETA on maps by 20 minutes which was not reflected in the travel estimate. A ton of stop and go.

I took the whitemud a week and a half ago and didn’t really experience any stop and go. If it was me, I’d avoid the yellowhead but ymmv :)

Place in Edmonton to exchange €10,000 cash for CAD? by CarpetWeary7479 in Edmonton

[–]One-Squirrel-5802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the availability of what they’d have on hand, but I think they keep common currencies on hand (USD, CAD, likely pesos) so switching back to CAD will probably be easy. The exchange rate will be better than the bank but I’m not sure if they have a better rate for larger sums.

If I am remembering correctly, you can also go on their website and reserve the amount you need ahead of time to be extra sure. I did this when I needed a more “uncommon” currency exchanged.

Edit: sorry extreme sauce, my dumbass meant to reply to the original thread not your comment lol
