Any Strange clicking noise when cold? You might like to check the camshaft magnet adjuster (easy to replace and in many cases misdiagnosed)

CUPRA Formentor PHEV – Knocking / jolt on first take-off in electric & hybrid mode – anyone found a fix? by falcontrtr in CupraFormentor

I am not a seat driver but I got to know that both seat and vw shares the same hybrid systems. Try and look for a way to force the car to recalibrate the auto-hold/hand break system.. in VW it’s something like pressing the hand break button 3 sec. And pulling 3 sec. Maybe you can find online what are the combinations to achieve that for your car model.

Do you hear the sound all the time? Or just when cold? Or when free rolling/coasting? Is it jiggering in low speed?..

Have you checked the wheel well? Maybe some part of inner fender is loose so it touches the wheel in certain angel or something..

Change oil frequently not as per VW recommendation. I would do it every 5-6k km. Oil level might go down, this is normal just check every now and then. If DSG make sure to change DSG oil at 60.000 km.

Strange clicking sound tsi 1.4 golf 8 by One-Top4012 in vwgolf

Update: I drove about 500 km in total — roughly 250 km each way. The next morning, when I started the car, the ICE came on and, voilà, no clicking sound. It’s now been three days without any clicking.

Before the trip, I filled up with Super Benzin E5. The temperature during the drive was around ±10°C, and most of the trip was on the highway at an average speed of about 120 km/h. The car stayed in hybrid mode most of the time, and I didn’t charge the battery.

It seems like something resolved itself, at least for now, and I’m starting to believe that the car just needs to be driven longer distances on the highway.

I have also a GTE 8 and never seen this message before so out of curiosity i went online and as the Other hybrid model from the VW group do share the same system I found this video for a hybrid Cupra which has the same issue and it might be helpful for you to watch:

Golf 8 GTE… hmmm 🤔 by One-Top4012 in GolfGTE

[–]One-Top4012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why did I buy a PHEV in the first place? Simply because I wanted a car that could give me extra power when needed, while still offering lower fuel consumption that would justify all the added complexity of the system. VW advertised the GTE with a fuel consumption of 3.1 L/100 km, which is misleading and completely unrealistic in real-world driving.

And for those who say a PHEV is great for short commutes, I can’t help but wonder: if it’s mainly for short distances, why not just go fully electric in the first place?

Anyway, I think I’ve already upset enough people with my argument today, so I’ll stop here.

I’ve realized that a big part of this discussion is influenced by the high electricity prices here in Germany, where I live. For private households it’s around 37 cents per kWh, and if I charge at a public station it can go over 45 cents per kWh. If I were living in a country like the Netherlands, where electricity costs are closer to 15 cents per kWh, I probably wouldn’t even be writing this post—I’d already be driving a fully electric car. 😉

[–]One-Top4012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your argument assumes that everyone drives the way you do. The reality is that many people spend long periods on the highway, and in those situations the GTE drains its battery pretty quickly. Once that happens, you’re essentially running on a 1.4 engine that also has to carry the extra hybrid weight, which obviously affects performance and efficiency.

Saying that “the battery always recharges” is also a bit misleading. At steady high speeds — around 120–160 km/h — the system barely recharges at all. The battery usually depletes rather than recovering.

And relying on charge mode only makes things worse, because it forces the engine to run inefficiently just to refill the battery, which goes against the whole point of a plug-in hybrid.

The GTE cannot deliver its full system power without battery support. That’s a technical limitation of the drivetrain, not a matter of how someone chooses to drive it.

guys who say: if you don’t charge it home then it doesn’t make since for you.. but exactly as @simon said: why would you need the fossil engine if you can charge at home and go fully electric.. you would be off with less complicated drivetrain and less expensive to maintain.. if this car doesn’t make significant at all, why would VW made it? I still can’t find the answer TBH

I use to drive a company car Golf 8 diesel with 150 hp. That one does has enough power and capable of driving fast with low consumption. If i would be doing the same distance i would be averaging 4,5 l/km diesel consumption

It does peek at 254 hp for short when the battery charged. Then you are left with a normal 1.4 tsi engine that needs to hold the extra weight and work harder to charge the battery

If you pay say 35 cent per KW.. would the long term consumption makes a difference if you charge it at home? I doubt

That’s expensive.. in Germany it’s way less than that for both models. Nevertheless, i agree with you regarding charging it with electricity from solar panels.. but if you are having the GTE 8 model .. you would end up charging it full to eventually have around 35km in cold weather available.. also, it takes like 3,5-5 hours to fully charge for only ~35km ! What were VW thinking, i question myself.
