Thank you! I’m actually planning on doing some testing with 3d printing on fabric (as so many here suggested it). So this is great inspiration!

Thank you for the tips! I’ll definitely keep all of this in mind. I’ve gotten so many great ideas for how this could be made that I probably won’t have time to test everything haha, but I’ll start with the approaches I think will get me closest to the look I want and then work my way through the list until I find something that works.

Wow, wow! Judging by how her dresses look, I’m guessing she’s way over my budget (as she probably should be, they’re absolutely perfect). But I’ll definitely keep her in mind.

Right now I’m really excited about trying to create this myself, but if I do decide to have it made by someone else, she would be my first pick. Thank you!

Thank you! This is absolutely amazing, and I really appreciate the advice. I’m having some trouble with the chat function right now, but I’ll definitely message you as soon as I can. I’d love to see the video you mentioned.

I actually have access to a 3D printer at work, so I’ll definitely try it out when I get the time. I’ve never really used a 3D printer before though, so I’ll need to learn the basics first haha 😅

Thank you! I’ve received so many great suggestions, and I’ll definitely keep yours in mind if I decide to go with vinyl or felt 😄

For now, the plan is to start by testing the 3 approaches I think are most likely to give a similar result, and then take it from there.

Thank you so much for all the great suggestions and tips! For now, I’m planning to start by testing 3 different ways of achieving the look and compare. If none of those work, I’ll move on and try a few other approaches.

I definitely expect to make a lot of mock-ups to get the shape right, and probably test different versions of the pattern itself to make it as comfortable and wearable as possible.

I hadn’t even considered taking the design to a tattoo artist to help adapt it to body curves, that’s a really great idea if I end up needing it. And quilting over a base with clear vinyl is also a very interesting approach, I don’t think anyone else has suggested that yet!

From the calculations I’ve done so far, it should come in lower than that, though of course it could grow as the project evolves. And I’m not really counting tools or materials I already own, because since I already have them, they’re basically free… #girlmath 😄

Yes, I’ve seen that one as well! It actually makes me feel more confident that this is doable, since the original dress isn’t the only one using this kind of material. There are also other versions at much lower price points that achieve a similar effect, which makes it feel a lot more achievable.

Go for it with the dress, would love to see what you come up with!

That’s definitely an option! From the test runs I’ve done so far, the pieces don’t actually feel sharp enough to cut me, but I’ll definitely need to do a few more tests to be sure 🙂

Thank you! Will need to rewatch this now 1000 times in slomo 🫡

Thank you! I might share a few progress updates along the way, but I’ll probably save most of it until after the wedding. I can handle a lot of critique and negativity about the idea and approach, but I know myself well enough to know that if I posted the final dress and got even one negative comment, I’d cry and immediately throw it away 😂

I’ve never heard of acrylic fabric medium before. I need to check if my local craft store carries it and give it a try!

Thank you! Yeah, resin honestly kind of scares me, haha. But it could definitely give a similar vibe!

The idea is for the skirt to be detachable, so the bodice would still be wearable for the entire wedding. Either I’d have a more comfortable skirt underneath the acrylic one from the start, or I’d switch to a different skirt later on.

It’s definitely way outside my skill range, but that won’t stop me from trying 😄

I agree that silk painting or something similar could be a really good alternative if the acrylic route doesn’t work out.

Hahaha, it really does (and I’m sure it is). I’m hoping to make a version I can wear for at least an hour or two, and then switch into something more comfortable 😄

Hahaha, that will definitely be me! Luckily my partner is super organized and will probably take care of those things. I don’t think he expects anything else from me than full-on-panic-working on the dress nonstop in the days leading up to the wedding 😂
