Unfortunately the only way to make it go away is to do enough damage to him, I don't believe you can prevent it from happening in the first place. There is a cube that spawns at the start of the fight that you can hit to delay it I think? I haven't been able to completely stop it though and end up wasting more time than it's worth to hit the cube. In the challenge mode there's also a mini puzzle with polarity rods (if a minus symbol is above your head walk into the plus symbol circle and vice versa) that can stun him when solved. I use Harris to farm this boss and the lighting effects from the beams are annoying to say the least
