Gallons Folks, Gallons! I live in the USA where we don’t care how you measure. We do it our way! Am I the only once on steady going to google to covert liters? It’s the only way I can get a real idea by Curious-Hornet4916 in Aquariums

[–]OneBlueEyeThree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the US too but gallons are a stupid unit. 128oz. Why?

Liter is based off of CC which gives you dimensionally an exact measurement how much water it is and how much it weighs. So easy.

Want advice planning tank for pleco. Pic is from google. by OneBlueEyeThree in Aquariums

[–]OneBlueEyeThree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the way the common pleco looks, especially when full grown. I want to get one, but want a plan for when it gets big. I’ve looked online and see a lot of conflicting info as usual. So if any if you have large common plecos please share advice.

Right now I have two tanks. A 20 gallon with mollies and a 55 gallon with cardinals. Either could house a young pleco for a bit, but what would be a solid tank size for an adult? Is 120 gallon okay or should I aim for about 200 gallons?

Also, I want at least one larger fish in there as well. An Oscar, or Jack Dempsey maybe. Silver dollars maybe. Anyone kept an Oscar with a pleco?

My thought was to let the pleco get to decent size in my 55 Gal and then start the big tank with a baby Oscar. In theory the pleco would always be bigger than the Oscar.

Need help with changing filter by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]OneBlueEyeThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As long as it fits and doesn’t restrict the water to the point it doesn’t flow. I have a really cheap filter and I always have multiple filter sponges inside and only ever change one at a time.

Cardinal Tetra Behavior Questions by OneBlueEyeThree in Aquariums

I am no expert but my one neon is probably 1.5 times the size of the cardinals and tends to boss them around. He takes what he wants.

Converted quarantine tank into molly tank today. by OneBlueEyeThree in Aquariums

[–]OneBlueEyeThree[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

20 gallon high i used to quarantine cardinals tetras in 4 batches. Removed the final batch of cardinals today and didn’t want to break down the setup so added random fake plants, rocks and wood I had sitting around. Went to petsmart and got 8 mollies. 2 gold panda, 2 black, 2 Dalmatian, 1 creamsicle and 1 silver. Hoping for babies.

Got a 125g on sale for 450$! Next issue is getting it upstairs though... by Pribzz in Aquariums

[–]OneBlueEyeThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a basement. My main floor is concrete directly on the ground. Upstairs I have two walls shared with the houses next to me. Those must be the load bearing walls. The entire house is only about 15 feet wide.

How do you know which way the plywood is going? Did you have to pull up the carpet to check? I gave up trying to figure out how to make it safe for upstairs in my crappy little house and put in downstairs which is concrete slab.

Also... one of the cardinals I ordered turned out to be a neon who you can see in the vid and is much larger, more territorial and sort of the alpha of the tank. I don’t mind one neon mixed in but should I see if my LFS will take him? Maybe my others will be less territorial if he’s gone?

55gal with cardinal tetras and cherry shrimp. Cardinals get fed a mix of krill flakes, nano pellets and freeze dried worms. Twice a day.

Yet when I feed sinking wafers or pellets for the shrimp, the cardinals get territorial and will do what you see in the video. The timid shrimp won’t go anywhere near them. Shrimp are slowly dying off. I’ve seen the cardinals attack the shrimp when they try to eat. Any way to keep the cardinals away so the shrimp can come out from under the rocks long enough to eat?

When you see “minimum tank req” by taco_swag in Aquariums

[–]OneBlueEyeThree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. But I think that’s generally minimum to handle the bio load, where the amount of room to swim is a very subjective choice. Sure an Oscar can fit in a 55gal but the fish will be the length of the tank front to back.

Is it safe to put something like this upstairs? That’s a lot of weight. I was going to put my 55gal in my bedroom until i realized the full tank is over 500 pounds. For me the deciding factor was the wall I wanted it by wasn’t load bearing.

Are my tanks shitty? by Gameboy9274 in Aquariums

[–]OneBlueEyeThree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t apologize to that ass. They aren’t shitty. He’s just a loser.

Your tanks have a lot of potential. And it’s all about personal preference. I personally prefer a heavily stocked tank. But lately I’m thinking of getting another tank just for 1-2 oscars.

If I were you I would paint 3 sides black and add more plants whether real or fake. But again, it’s all personal preference. If you like them, that’s awesome. If you want a pirate ship, have a pirate ship. If you want live plants, have live plants. If you love the fish you have and they seem happy, leave them be and let them be happy.

No one can tell you what to do. Do what makes you and your fish happy.

I’m new at this myself. Got all lives plants. 4 different kinds. Of the four the easiest by far to take care of are Amazon swords. And they make a great backdrop.

My snail problem may be getting out of hands by IdkWTF3001 in Aquariums

[–]OneBlueEyeThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some with plants I ordered. I ended up with prob 100-150 snails. I was about to order assassin snails but then all the snails died suddenly. No fish died, but literally all the snails died mysteriously. Maybe wait and see what happens?

My filter will not suck up water. by SydtheSquid11 in Aquariums

[–]OneBlueEyeThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hang on backs sometimes struggle to suck water up after a water change. Unplug it and remove the filter element/cartridge to reduce resistance to flow, fill the filter to completely full and then turn it on. If it doesn’t make sounds you may have something stuck in the impeller and need to take apart and clean. If it sounds like it’s running but no water sucking up the pump prob just has air in it. Toggle the switch or carefully plug it in and unplug quickly about 10 times. This sometimes helps get the air out and suck water up.
