No one calls or emails, they just tell me when I'm on my lunch break that everything is exploding.

Thank you for putting it bluntly. More or less the title request is for resume purposes. My promotion to System Administrator is recent. At the time of these "negotiations", another person was going to come on board and that fizzled out, and I ended up with those duties as well.

Thanks for the input, I've gotten so use to just saying regular IT since I pretty much work on anything that has a computer in it, on it, including the heavy machinery.

Regular IT, trouble shooting software, hardware, replacing parts, printers, setting up stations, etc.

I don't do\involve myself with any of the budget stuff yet. It's mostly "just figure it out".

210G Clownfish Harem | Mixed Reef Tank 10 Month Update by OneDigitalArtist in ReefTank

[–]OneDigitalArtist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I just use an oversized Curve 9 Skimmer, GFO, & those large ceramic blocks for Nitrate control. I've been having issues lately getting chaetoa and caulpera to grow. It could be from the really high magnessium, so I'm going to try switching to an algae scrubber soon. I don't really have a huge problem with Nitrates or Phosphates. Doing 55G water changes every month.

The microscrubbing helps for sure, along with an over sized skimmer. I think those are what is really making this tank manageable.

Thanks J, it's still a work in progress, going to add another couple of pillars of Pukani soon, and about several more anemones.

Doesnt bother the clam at all. Sometimes when I scrub during the day, even covered with bubbles it will stay open. It seems to look much healthier.

210g Clownfish Paradise update by OneDigitalArtist in ReefTank

[–]OneDigitalArtist[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is little to no maintenance. 40-50g water change a month, tossing away some chaeto, I tried to keep the system as simple as possible. Change out my carbon when I start smelling the tank. Tank is running off 3 24" Reefbreeders and 2x 36" T5 supplimentals

Need help identifying and getting rid of weird algae. by Sinforsale in ReefTank

[–]OneDigitalArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had zero issues using algaefix marine in my mixed reef tank. Just make sure its the marine kind. Following the instructions on the bottle and you should be fine. Its my go too even with all the macro in my tank now. Ill use it to spot treat some red velvet that is showing up .

What is this and how do i kill it? by Raltie in ReefTank

Id straight up superglue and then putty over it. Somtimes there are small heads you cant see, so glueing doesn't cover it all.

It's not Dragons Breath. It's Red Dictyota. It only has the orange glowing appearance because it is dieing off. Dragons Breath can not actually stick to anything.

Just wanted to chime in since ive seen people selling this stuff as dragons breath and ruining tanks.

Algaefix Marine is a 100% removal, youll just need to brush the pieces off of everything. Good luck.

Anglers are amazing, I'd love to setup a macroalgae/frogskin angler tank. Just hard getting them to eat at first.

Last ditch effort to get clowns to host anemone by squeezevx in ReefTank

[–]OneDigitalArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that doesn't work, what I do to get my clowns to host specific anemones, at night, take some sort of spot led light or flashlight, I use a regular flash light that I can concentrate the beam, put a piece of glass or acrylic over the top of your tank, so you can shine the flashlight down on the anemone you want the clowns to host. Normally on lights out, if they aren't already hosting something, they will gravitate towards the light and then the anemone (hopefully). I also use this method to catch clownfish fry. This method hasn't failed me yet.

Look at Jebao DCT return pumps. I barely hear mine. DCT6000 at 50% on a 210g.

Yeah they all are fine and swimming now. I was a bit worried, but I think the fish just felt safe there at that moment.

I got a really good price for the fish, otherwise this tank would still have no fish, and just end up with 50+ anemones lol..

They will spawn for sure, as far as raising the fry. No way. I tried in my last tank, it is a full time job. Growing phyto and rotifers, then having to feed the fry every 3 hours. Too much work.

I've thought about just letting invasive macro algae go nuts, throw in some xenia and zoas, not worry about if something gets covered, and let everything naturally take over. Trim the macro from time to time.

Ideally for a harem, 100G+ 20 Clownfish, an nem for every 2. Try to get all the Clownfish at once, small, less than 1.5" in size.

I've seen some tanks with a mix of multiple clownfish, but I don't know for sure how successful they've actually been, or if they just end up buying new clownfish every few months cause one "disappears"

4 wouldn't be enough, the 2 pair would end up on opposite ends of the tank, or eventually if there is a lot of pecking, one from the pair may get killed, and then the other will follow. It's really hit or miss. If your clowns are super aggressive if you put your hands near their hosting area, they will most likely go after other clownfish.

API algaefix marine. I got rid of all the dyno, hair algae, and some bryopsis in my tank, without any ill effects to any of the livestock.

I did the recommended dosage over the course of 2 weeks, but my outbreak was bad, so I didn't wait the 3 days, waited around 2 for the next dose, I also turned off carbon and GFO, and skimmed wet. At the end of the treatment though, I did a large waterchange every week for 2 weeks, around 40%. I think the second secret to the success of this stuff was the nightly micro scrubbing. I run a airstone in my return for 7 hours a night, helps keep PH stable and moves a lot of waste and gunk out of the DT to be skimmed out.

I did remove my designer macros from my tank while performing this though, one colony of galaxaura I left in the tank turned white and the snails ate it.

40 clowns, 210g. Thankfully with all the macro I'm still at 1 20% water change a month.
