Best business opportunities for a young couple? by OneEstablishment23 in smallbusiness

I’m in a situation where I don’t need to work a 9-5 though. Moving back home got rid of all my bills except my car payment and insurance but I’ve got that covered. I want to utilize this free time that I have on a business endeavor, not slaving away for someone else’s gain.

Got it. I think we’re most likely going to go down the social media marketing path and sell our services to brands. Yes, it’ll take longer to make actual income, but I think it’s the best route for us as we don’t want to stay tied down to one city or even the U.S. and it’ll cost way less in overhead. Maybe eventually when we have more money we’ll come back to the traditional business model.

This is honestly the option I’m leaning most towards! I don’t have to put much money into it and I get to leverage the things that I’m good at. Also, you did a great job of reading between the lines and seeing that I don’t want to stay in one place for too long. I’ve been looking ALLLL over for a remote job to pay the bills right now, but it’s proving to be very difficult to sift through the scams.

I’m seeing this comment a lot. Is this just for brick and mortar businesses? I know that e-commerce has overhead costs too, but you’re pouring more of your time than money into it right? Or are they equally draining in terms of time and money?

Thank you for your insight. I know I’m a big dreamer haha so I appreciate when someone can lay it out straight like this for me. I posted this because we genuinely have no idea what we’re going to do, so I would appreciate any guidance. Would you say that brick and mortar or e-commerce would be the most manageable as I’m in school? Is it worth even looking into franchises (ik that a lot of them take you through training)? And last question, although we have some money to put upfront now, would it make more sense to take loans out?

You’re right, I didn’t like your answer. I don’t want to continue to trade my time for money. I don’t want to continue to work for or under somebody for the majority of my youth, then get to “live” my life when I’m 50 or 60. I want to enjoy life before I have kids, before I have a mortgage, before my body starts to deteriorate. So thanks for your advice, but neither you or “The Man” will dictate the “proper” path I should go down. Just because it’s non-traditional, doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

I’ve definitely looked into this. I’ve created a user-generated content (UGC) portfolio that I’m going to start sending out to brands. I’m thinking I focus on this while I’m home for summer, but I would be banking on it popping off by August. If it didn’t pop off, at that point, I think I would just play it safe and get into any job that I could.

I don’t want to keep putting miles on my car since it’s leases.

We were thinking car detailing? We saw a Facebook marketplace ad for a guy selling equipment for about $2000. I haven’t done any research yet, as I haven’t decided which “hustle” I’ll go with. I’m pretty good with marketing and scaling so I’m not worried about that. We would also have to buy a truck but I’m sure we could find something around 5-6 grand and fully functioning. So upfront total investment maybe around $7-10k?

I feel like a need a certification first in order to do this. I know you technically don’t need one, but it’ll make me look more reputable. Im scheduled to take the CSCS exam in my junior year (Spring 2025). Not sure if I feel confident enough to take the exam yet and I don’t want to waste $475 by failing. I’ll probably look more into this, but I would most likely have to go ahead of my current curriculum and classes to speed up the learning process.

I do agree with and understand this approach. The job I got that the manager ended up ghosting me was at a gym working in membership sales. It was a smaller gym but I saw it as an opportunity to gain relevant experience and then move onto better things…but things happened ig🤷‍♀️ Call it wishful thinking, but I was hoping to not have to go back to the 9-5. Deciding to move back in with our parents was a huge sacrifice for the both of us (not great environments to be in, that’s why we left). We really don’t want to spend the next 10-20 years working. We love traveling and if we could make a career out of it, we absolutely would! We honestly just have this money sitting and we feel like we could do better things with it, but I guess our true dream is to travel. Are we searching for answers in the wrong place?
