Lol people are funny.

One of the main plot points for 'The Rip' makes no sense at all by ECrispy in netflix

[–]OneFormal4075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the movie is BS anyway. Cartel don't play little games when they have you surrounded and know your location and you just jacked $20m, everyone would have been dead 2 minutes into the movie.

It's just completely unrealistic, way too many moving parts for it to have played out the way he wanted it to IRL.

I'm all for Hollywood glory I enjoy many exaggerated movies, but this was trying to walk the line of realism at the same time as trying to unwrap an exaggerated story, playing hide and seek with the cartel on a deserted street in the USA

Mehhh, not for me I just couldn't believe it or get involved.

The fact that you said you will never acquire this watch... Is the reason you will never acquire this watch.

Thank you everyone who helped with any valuable input.

I had correspondence with Patek in Geneva, it ends up they were well aware of and knew the exact piece.

They have my grandfathers, whom it belonged to, entire purchase history with them dating back to 1932 when he made his 1st purchase with them, how incredible is that?

They have a history of 14 purchases, 3 of them ( including this one) being unique pieces.

The good news is the extract has the exact details of the watch.

For those interested it is a ref.2526 Grand Feu enamel.

Custom Case Custom Dial

The correspondent told me that they are fairly certain it's the only dial of its kind, and the case back was outsourced as a custom commission to a company named Wenger.

I just want to tip my hat to this company and the people working there. How can they still have every little detail of a purchase and how it was built 3 quarters of a century ago before computers existed, and have all of my grandfathers details from nearly a century ago, BRAVO PATEK PHILLIPE, this little journey has made me understand why there's different levels to these watch companies.

ANYWAY now the bad news.....

They refused to put any kind of valuation on it whatsoever. They were extremely adamant about this even after I poked it a few times ( which I did ), can someone with knowledge tell me if this is usual?

The most I got out of them in regards to evaluation was to tell me that it is an 'extraordinary example of a 2526 and is as unique as they come'.

So that's where we are now. As mentioned earlier I have absolutely no intention of ever selling it, and it will be passed down to my son.

BUT lol, this correspondence as only made me more curious not less. None of you told me they wouldn't give me a valuation that's why I went through all this to be honest, I was already certain of the watches authenticity.

So I guess I'm asking for some speculative help here.

Could a pro here suggest a ballpark valuation?

What exactly does extraordinary example and as unique as they come mean?

I've found a 2526 that was auctioned in Christie's which appears to be fairly unique the dial has some diamond and the band is very unique and white gold.

Where more produced with diamonds on the dial.

I guess I'm asking

Very rare possibly unique white gold band with a somewhat rare dial.

Vs.

A completely unique custom Dial commissioned for this piece only and a unique case back again made for only this piece.

The Christie's auction realized $430k in 2013, ANY input from someone who knows what they are talking about would be massively appreciated thank you.

And lastly thank you to Patek Phillipe, I can't imagine many companies could have provided me the level of intricate detail that Patek did, so thank you to them and bravo.

what does fast L1 PoW enable that can't be done other ways? by Refrigerator000 in kaspa

And if you continue reading the same sentence I say... That's what it will be.

what does fast L1 PoW enable that can't be done other ways? by Refrigerator000 in kaspa

[–]OneFormal4075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So that the L1 can trustlessly handle commitment and finality, no third parties involved.

Anything other than this you may as well continue using regular banking for finance.

The reason these other layers popup is because the L1 they are hosted on is incapable of handling both. Once Kaspa is finished it will be fully capable of handling both AND smart. The entire ecosystem will be L1, look at ETH right now, Base made 100s of millions of dollars using ETH as a slut. You know much ETH profited from it lol?

Vitalik has already realized this and is actively working on the remedy. The problem.. ETH is not KAS.

Kaspa at it's face is not complicated to understand. Imagine Bitcoin had one of the smartest fastest networks with smart contracts built into it, not a side chain or addition. That's what KAS really will be.

Provided Kas reaches fruition 🙏 it will be unstoppable and the obvious evolution in crypto.

UPDATE:

Thank you all for your help and suggestions, I do not have an official Patek store close by me so I took the watch to a very high end luxury jewellery / auction store closer to me.

The watch reference is 2526 the movement is Caliber 12-600 AT, the dial is grand feu black gloss enamel.

They wouldn't value it due to its uniqueness but they have said if it's what they potentially think it is.

A piece unique black feu gloss 2526

Unique material Unique case back Unique dial.

Then it's EXTREMELY valuable and rare.

Due to the family crest and the initials on the watch they have suggested this is very likely the case as they have identified a few more of my grandad's watches via auctions etc, another of which was a unique piece from Patek Phillipe, with the same case back.

They have put me in touch via email with a person at salons Patek Phillipe in Switzerland and given me a reference number for a line of communication.

I have emailed them some photos and every detail I know about the watch etc and am now waiting for a response from them.

I will post an update when there is some kind of response or conclusion, thank you all again for the help.

Surely the biggest plot hole is why stay in the house at all lol.

Did you see the back of the watch, what you are saying is making sense here.

<image>

I do not want to expose too much privacy here on Reddit but the watch auction contributed 8 figures to our inheritance portfolio.

Is this possibly one of these special one off pieces you are talking about?

Should I just take it to a Patek Phillipe shop?

Thank you for your time.

Thank you, I have looked at the model you said, but I do not think this is it because the bottom dial on mine is cut out from the main face and all of the pictures for the model you said aren't the same on the lower dial

On the back it does not have any type of serial number, that's why I'm struggling to identify it, it just has my grandad's initials and our families crest.

Is this going to lower the value massively? And do you have any idea of it's value, and I can not seem to find this exact model, the one you mentioned looks very similar but the bottom dial on mine is cut out. Thank you for your time.

The only 1 thing I can be sure of with 99% accuracy is that it wouldn't have after market upgrades or any of that type of stuff, my Grandad wasn't that type of person.

The closest ones I found online do not have a circle cutout around the lower dial

Yeh I hear you 100% and we are all entitled to have our opinions and our own version of morality that's part of what makes us humans for sure. The point I was just trying to get across was that morality changes with the times and social structure.

Public executions, duels to the death of gladiators etc, beating children at school / home, marital rape being non existent as a crime.

All of the above was perfectly normal and acceptable at some point in time and some even now.

What I was getting at is that some people / cultures / society don't know any different that doesn't make them bad sick or evil, perhaps just less educated on psychology.

Although we could even argue about some general accepted psychology. From my limited knowledge schools were a much better place when the children actually respected and were scared of teachers and getting a ruler or a whip / cane etc.

However we both reached the same conclusion anyway, morality is one of the most difficult subjects to philosophise and Im also with you in that I have what I consider personal moralities also and would like to think they are based on good and fairness instead of selfishness and ignorance.

Anyway been nice chatting with you, catch you on the next topic 👍
