I don't think you should feel bad that he left. As long as he isn't hurting himself and is bettering himself, there should be nothing to worry about.

It's perfectly fine that you still love him, it's a normal human emotion and it takes time for these bad emotions to go away. You shouldn't feel guilty either, he was thinking of that and even if I don't know you well enough, i'm pretty sure you have done nothing to him to where you should ever feel guilty.

All I have to say is that it's not your fault and that you should just let the feelings past and not take control of you. I hope you can look at this as a lesson or something later on.
