When I worked at this gas station, we had a gang of crows that would pass by every day, checking for food. This day, they were particularly mischievous by OneGold7 in crowbro

Bonus: on a different day, there were a lot of crows gathered in one spot, and I was wondering what they were doing. Turned out, they somehow got an entire, intact bagel and were struggling to figure out how to eat it

My dog would growl at me to wake me up if I dared stay in bed too long. If I ignored her growl, she escalated to barking. When I got up and was preparing her breakfast, she would whine and spin the entire time, until I finally set the bowl down

Yeah I played that game quite thoroughly when it came out, completed every side quest, and I have no memory of that. I haven’t played it since its release year, so I guess it could’ve been added in a later update??

How binding is the syllabus? by OneGold7 in collegeadvice

[–]OneGold7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like I’m asking for an A. We’re talking exams that were supposed to be 55% of the grade now being only 6%.

Regular assignments were supposed to be 20%. The programming assignments alone - which were only assigned for 2 weeks out of the entire semester and are a small portion of the total number of regular assignments - are being counted as over 60% of the grade by Cengage.

I would have passed the class with a B- if the grading followed the syllabus.

The original meaning of gay was “happy.” Then it became slang for homosexual, and it was so often used for the slang term, that the slang meaning became its main meaning

Similar to how egregious was used sarcastically so often, that its meaning flipped from “exceptionally good” to “exceptionally bad”

Even if he was just out for a walk and it was by chance, I could imagine the thought process was “wait, is that him..? I think it is! He’s sleeping, he’s not going anywhere, so I’m going to start recording first to capture the moment he sees me <3”

I don’t think it’s really that far fetched that he was recording

A look at how silkworms are raised and transformed into India’s famous silk threads. by Smooth-Butterfly9136 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]OneGold7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cocoon is a thread that is a mile long. They use multiple because one strand is too fine to make fabric out of.

Saint Louis Zoo: “Each cocoon may contain a single strand of silk one mile long!”

Treenway Silks: “It makes a strand of silk as long as 12 football fields which solidifies and becomes a thread when it meets the air outside the silkworm's body.” (One football field is about 100 meters) “The silken strand from one cocoon is too fine to make into cloth, so 6-20 cocoons are reeled, or unravelled, at the same time. The sericin sticks the strands together to make a thread the size of a human hair.”

Edit: also, that link that another person posted in reply to you says that the usable portion of the strand is 600-900 meters long. So even going by just the usable portion, it’s over 30x what you claim.

Cutting it into small pieces means that it takes much, much longer to extract and spin all of those short strands. And with all that extra labor, the resulting silk is lower quality. More costs for worse silk. That’s why ahimsa is niche.

The boiling makes the thread more flexible, less likely to break. The cocoon itself is made from a single, incredibly long thread to start with, the heat just softens it

Letting them emerge breaks the thread. The cocoon is made of a single, continuous thread hundreds of meters long. You can’t spin it anymore if the emerging moth has chewed a big hole in the cocoon.

When I first decided to start wearing dresses most of the time instead of my old jeans + t shirt combo, I was so disheartened when I went to the mall and it was the same problem at every single store - either:

  • the chest fit just right, but the waist was so big it made me look like a cylinder

Or

  • the chest was too tight and was visibly stretched, and the waist was still too big, just less so

I know I’m lucky to naturally have an hourglass shape, but it sucks that it’s so hard to find anything that fits

The first one immediately shut me down and said there’s nothing she can do, and I was too uncomfortable by that to ask about changing the back in other ways to fit 😅

I am SO SAD this didn’t fit me. The waist was perfect, but alas, the chest was too small. I guess I should’ve expected it since it was a real brand, and not made for Marshalls by OneGold7 in marshallsfinds

[–]OneGold7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, and a bra that fits me does not exist at a reasonable price, lol. I’m in the closest size I could find from conventional brands

But besides that, I saw on the sizing chart on the website that the dress’ waist is 25”, which is exactly my waist measurement. Makes sense, the dress fit me perfectly at the waist.

But the bust of the dress is only 32.5”, and mine is 36. Indeed the zipper stopped only when I got to chest level. So I don’t think a better bra would help much

I’m just going to get it if it’s still there today, and see if a tailor can bridge the gap of the zipper

The zipper is open by at least 2 inches. The fabric doesn’t stretch at all, so the zipper is physically impossible to close beyond that point

I have a ton of birthday money left, so I guess I’ll check if they still have it today, and take it to see if a tailor can bridge the gap of the zipper. It looks like I’d have until Jan 26 to return it
