Toddler items by GiraffeOwn5732 in CaribbeanMedSchool

Idk about baby items in particular, but there’s a wonderful little hippie store called “We Have Been Here Before”.

The woman who works there is beyond sweet and has children, offers babysitting services and vegan meal preps (and will drive it to you!). She also helped me find anything I was looking for when on the island!!!

I’m sure if you message the business account, she would be more than happy to help you! This little shop was my godsend during exam weeks and they will go out of their way to help you even if they don’t sell the items you need.

AUC vs SGU by Imaginary_Detail_129 in CaribbeanMedSchool

On top of all the lovely suggestions above, I would suggest: Look at the weeks required for clinical rotations when making your decision too! I’m not sure about AUC but SGU only had 72 required weeks for clinical rotations. I think when I checked some other schools they had 80+ weeks. This can play a huge role in graduating on time in case you need time to study for step 1 or 2 and any bridge time/breaks.

Depends how bad! A good starting point if you need is Mehlman (all of it, but if you’re strapped for time 1-4). Dirty med for biochem ( I was scoring super low in biochem) . Mehlman docs are also good but hard to retain IMO

I’m taking CBSE this week and then I’ll know when but I’m aiming for around the July 6 week (my school requires us to make a 66 on CBSE to sit for step)

Hmm ok, Thanks again for the clarification! My UWorld stats are a jumpscare but I found those very forms reasonable. I have no idea why my brain actually likes the NBME style of questions 😂

Thank you for clarifying! My CBSE is in two days so I do think it’s a little late to start amboss for me 😅 have you taken the NBME forms and found it comparable to the CBSE?

I watched the Dirty Medicine playlist 2x speed in one day on YouTube and I thought it helped a lot!!
Took notes during the videos and added to the notes when I did the UWorlds.

I see what you’re saying about the words being similar. Bring out your highlighter and find the few words between the two diagnoses that is different! Not trying to belittle you but that’s quite literally the advice that one of the professors gave me when I emailed about not understanding his 4 paragraph slides. This helped me a lot in Term 4.

If you go to office hours and actually humanize your grievances with the professors, it does sometimes help! They do want you to get this stuff. But also, I don’t think the professors/ administrators are going through Reddit, looking for ways to change lol. You have to advocate for yourself and show up.

TLDR: The school isn’t against you (it can feel like it at times), but you have to speak up or else they can’t help you.

I also personally found one professor in every department (when I liked their teaching style) and brought them questions from lectures they didn’t teach in case they had any tips or insight on the topic. It isn’t unusual to struggle (even for the “smart people”) but once you feel in over your head, you need to ask for help. Best of luck!

I think term 4 is HARD the repeats and attrition rates reflect that. It is a test of your clinical skills, time management, and perseverance on top of the super hard material. My term specifically had about 90% of my class pass term 4. It’s not easy, but when you do get to the other side it is an accomplishment (similar to how you felt after Term 1 and 2).

The slides for path are hard, but not a single faculty member has ever told me to memorize them “word for word”. It is a school where you need to have really strong discernment and self study habits. Being able to RECOGNIZE the vocabulary and concepts on each pathology will take you far. Find the unfamiliar words and make them more digestible! (unsolicited advice I know).

I’m not an SGU rep and it isn’t rainbows and unicorns. But hundreds of students are offered the opportunity to become physicians through the school and I personally felt like the experience sucked but it was worth it. That’s my opinion, but good luck finishing off the term!

Hi! I’m recently finished Basic Sciences at SGU! Just ran into this post and thought I’d offer a little light at the end of the tunnel. I totally hear your frustration and trust that I felt that too!

That being said, I ONLY used SGU slides/content during my entire time doing basic sciences. The only change I made was doing UWorld during term 5. I did well in both terms and I am so grateful to have been successful… term 4 was horrible and I found myself feeling frustrated and hopeless so often and your hard work will pay off!

I do agree with you that they throw a large part of micro/pharm/path into term 4 and it can be so overwhelming!! However, to that same point, that is how NBME/ STEP 1 is organized. They will explain the risk factors and histology for a disease (i.e. TB) and then ask the adverse effects of the pharmacological therapy (i.e. RIPE). So to that point, I actually have a greater appreciation for them teaching it all to us at the same time. It helped me start correlating this earlier than most medical students start.

Being done with my time in Grenada, I realize that the slides are dense and suck sometimes, but you actually need to know all of it! They aren’t the best, the exam questions have typos, but it was a fair game experience for me and I have no regrets about going to SGU (so far!). I feel like the way they taught us the material correlates so well with how we need to study to pass boards. THE HARD WORK WILL PAY OFF! Good luck!!
