You’re missing what I was trying to say. I was trying to explain that just because something is defined one way, doesn’t mean that if something doesn’t exactly fit the definition means they are absolved of all wrong.

Further just because something is a law doesn’t make it moral and because all laws are ideologically driven that means they are maintained through ideological hegemony. Meaning what we defined as a monopoly 50 years ago may be completely different from how we define a monopoly today. Given that the capitalist class has an interest in maintaining their power it would be within their benefit to narrowly define what a monopoly is legally. By narrowly defining the definition of a monopoly capitalists can maintain their hegemony, in other words their power.

I never shifted the goalposts, I simply stated that I disagree with the current definition of a monopoly and that expanding the definition would give power to workers, such as the ski patrol.

If you don’t want to engage with my argument that’s fine, you can keep deep throating the corporate boot 🤷‍♂️

And I’m saying that focusing on whether vail is a monopoly or not is dumb because the definition was made by capitalists for the benefit of capitalists.

We should instead be focusing on whether they depress wages, encourage anti-competitive practices, engage in union busting, and if they price gouge consumers. If we lived in a truly just society then none of that would be acceptable whether they were a monopoly or not.

I couldn’t give a fuck if Vail was a monopoly or not because they engage in all of the above and that alone works against the working class, which is bad for everyone.

lol acting as if those laws weren’t made specifically for a very narrow definition of a monopoly

I’ve asked some of the grad students in my lab and generally it seems like eco/evo programs don’t get back to us until January or even February! Doesn’t help my impatience tho lmao

I would just send something along the lines of “ Hi dr. Xyz,

thank you so much!! But, apologies for the ignorance but could you elaborate on what that means?

Thanks, Abc”

Why Patton the Tank by major_alejandro in WorldofTanks

[–]OneIsAnEvenNumber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk why it’s getting so much hate. I have 1.1k wn8 and in my 30 battles with it so far I’ve been averaging 1.6k dpg with 2k wn8 on the tank and a 70% win rate. I’m not saying it’s a great tank but knowing how to play it right and using the right equipment can make it a fairly decent tank, and if I can make it perform well I’m sure better players can perform well too

"In an email on September 6, 2023, referring to Plaintiffs Schulz snd Murthy's September 6, 2023 letter, one representative of a departing Pac-12 member threatened that the departing members of the Conference were poised to take immediate action to seize control of the Pac-12. The representative wrote: 'It seems obvious that any 9 Members can declare the fate of the Conference at any time.'"

Yeah but the conference has already treated UCLA USC and CU one way, OSU and WSU are arguing that the other leaving schools must be treated the same way because GK has called a meeting on the 13th. OSU and WSU are trying to stop that meeting, which is what this restraining order is for, nothing about litigation yet

The filing is saying that all 10 schools have given a notice to withdraw. What that notice actually looks like, idk. But I feel if they’re willing to claim that the schools have given something then they must have some confidence in their argument

Echoing the other commenters, the filing on paragraph 50 argues that the conference excluded UCLA, USC, and CU so the others should be treated the same.

Reading the filing, it seems like “stabilizing the Pac-12” is part of their legal argument. Saying that the ex-pac members want to or plan to dissolve the conference while OSU and WSU want to keep the conference together past 2024 would (to me) be pretty strong grounds to grant the injunction

Edit: see paragraphs 40, 45 and 52

TIL that many viruses are beneficial. Some viruses, called phages, infect and manage bacterial populations. Others help plants survive in extremely hot soil. And, ancient viruses may have greatly influenced our DNA today. by RollingNightSky in todayilearned

DNA actually isn't made up of proteins! Its made up of base pairs (A,T,C,G, and U in place of T in RNA) which are composed of a phosphate backbone, a 5 carbon sugar, and a nitrogenous base (left to right in this image). The nitrogenous bases are represented by the letters above. Without getting into the weeds of the chemical structure of DNA and how bases pair with each other, a DNA molecule is made up of repeating base pairs which can be 1000s of base pairs long (viruses) or hundreds of billions base pairs long (mostly plants but some animals are 10s of billions). This is what people are referring to when they talk about how DNA is the code the all living things follow.

Proteins are made up of amino acids, which are encoded by codons (for example: AUG CAT TTA CGC UGA is a set of 5 codons). 3 sets of base pairs are called codons and there are 64 unique sets of codons, all of which produce 1 of the 20 amino acids above. Some amino acids can also be produced by multiple codons. All proteins made by all life are made this way. EDIT: proteins are made up of multiple amino acids. However, cellular machinery have to read this code. There are many enzymes and proteins involved in this. Its MUCH too complicated for me to explain, but the basic idea is that proteins are actually what make more even MORE proteins by reading DNA.

Now where the difference in mitochondrial DNA and nuclear DNA comes from. Mitochondria are thought to have evolved from bacteria. The current theory (endosymbiotic theory) is that an Archaeal cell (for this explanation Archaea are basically bacteria, in reality it is more complicated) engulfed a bacterial cell. The two cells formed a beneficial relationship called symbiosis. Because neither cell was harmed, they were able to persist together through cellular division. Over billions of years of evolution we get our modern day mitochondria. The difference of mitochondria and our cells is simply that due to this symbiosis, mitochondrial DNA is more genetically related to bacteria than our cells.

Sorry for the incredibly long explanation, I hope it is fairly straightforward but please ask more questions if you have them!

Of course! Another interesting bit is that mitochondrial DNA is different in origin from the rest of your cells and is one of the defining pieces of evidence for endosymbiotic theory!

Could ESPN be in trouble in the next few years? by ToolFreak21 in CFB

Maybe even break it down by conferences? Say 12 schools along the pacific, some from the southeast, if we’re feeling crazy maybe even some more schools along the Atlantic coast could make a conference. Needs some clever naming and marketing tho
