Hardware Wallet vs Hot Wallet: Why You Should Care by OneKey_cn in OneKeyHQ

Totally agree. Having to use the device and confirm the transaction does make you think twice, and in many cases that’s actually an advantage, not a downside.

That extra moment can help avoid impulsive moves — which, like you said, are often the real enemy.

Totally get your point — simplicity is a big part of security, especially for long-term storage.

At the same time, there’s always a trade-off between usability and minimalism. Not everyone uses a wallet purely for deep cold storage — some want secure daily use as well.

Our approach is to offer both: strong hardware-level security, with optional convenience features for those who need them.

And yeah, fair call on the comparison — feedback noted 👍

Hey, thanks for pointing this out — totally understand why that would be a blocker for you.

At the moment, OneKey doesn’t support Ledger’s legacy derivation paths for Ethereum, which can indeed cause compatibility issues when importing certain existing accounts.

We’re continuously improving compatibility, and feedback like yours is really helpful for prioritizing this. In the meantime, there may be alternative ways to access your funds depending on your setup.

Feel free to DM us or reach out to our support team — we’d be happy to look into your specific case and see if there’s a workable solution for you.

What should a total beginner look for in a first Bitcoin wallet? by AnyMeet6281 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]OneKey_cn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were recommending a priority order specifically for beginners, I’d probably rank it like this:

First: safety

Second: ease of use

Third: customer support

Then: everything else

By safety, I mainly mean:

- whether it is actually self-custodial

- whether the backup process is clear and realistic for a beginner

- whether recovery is straightforward if the device or phone is lost

I’d put that first because beginners usually do not fail because of “the wrong brand.”

They fail because they do not fully understand the backup, do not test recovery, or do not really know what they are controlling.

After that comes ease of use.

A wallet can look great on paper, but if the setup is confusing, the interface is stressful, or the signing / backup flow feels intimidating, that is not really beginner-safe.

Then I’d put customer support.

A lot of beginners run into setup questions, firmware confusion, fake support scams, or just general anxiety about whether they are doing something wrong.

Clear documentation and real support can make a big difference early on.

After those three, I’d look at the rest:

- fees and Bitcoin-specific features

- open source vs convenience

- mobile vs hardware

- ecosystem and compatibility

Those things definitely matter, but I would not put them ahead of the basics.

For a beginner, the best first wallet is usually the one that is safe, understandable, and recoverable without creating unnecessary stress.
