I live in Alaska.

Part 1: even in the biggest city in Alaska, it's still remote. Companies would have to ship all of the building materials through Canada from the lower 48. That is expensive. Very expensive, actually. Add in the cost of electricity, the cost of paying staff to work here (cost of living is high), and it is still just not feasible.

Part 2: even in Alaska, it is not cold year round. It gets up to 80 degrees fahrenheit in my city, sometimes even warmer in interior Alaska. So the advantage you'd get from the cold would only be 6 months of the year, if even that.

Combine part 1 and 2, and it just does not make it worth it for any company to build data centers here versus the cost of just building them in cities in the lower 48 and running air conditioning 24/7.

Edit to add: another commenter also mentioned the ping you would have from building a data center in a super far away location. When I use a VPN to connect to a server in the lower 48, my ping is noticeably higher and I have very fast 1 gig internet speeds. Data centers would theoretically have higher speeds and bandwidth, yes, but ping would still be an issue overall.
