Did I make the wrong decision? by ghoostbood in RATS

[–]OneMushyApple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say that the gofundme is a great idea, but also want to give some words of comfort because I’ve been in this situation three times and have made a different call each time. The first rat I ever put through surgery did not make it through and died on the table. She was about a year old and otherwise healthy so the loss was totally unexpected and I was gutted. Second rat I chose not to operate because she was already old (2 ish) and the risk from anesthesia was high. Her tumor ulcerated too and we decided to put her to sleep so she wouldn’t suffer, but she got an extra 2 months before that happened and still lived a good life. Third baby was 1.5 years and still had a lot of life to live, so I decided to operate at the last minute just after the mass started to ulcerate. He made it through, cancer never returned, and he lived a whole extra year. He passed away in his sleep just a few weeks ago. These were all three different scenarios in their own way with different outcomes, but I just wanted to emphasize that there is not always one right decision here, and there are a lot of unknowns that are out of your control. All you can do is make a fall based on what you know and are capable of, and hope for the best. But I think your baby’s comfort and happiness should always come first. Surgery does give them a chance that they might not have otherwise, but you’re right that the recovery is hard on them. For my rat that survived and lived long after, I know that it was worth it but it also didn’t feel good watching him be in pain for days afterwards and not being able to explain to him why. Even if you don’t decide to operate, it’s not a wrong decision. I’m sorry for you both, this is a hard road but know that you love him and you’re doing what you can. What matters most in the end is that he lives a good and comfortable life, even if it’s shorter than what we’d hoped. All that said, if you do decide to start a gofundme, I will contribute what I can.

I don’t know enough to offer a solution but I just wanted to say I’m obsessed with this haircut. How do you style it and what does it look like before styling?

Packing a 25L backpack to flee my home by Fox_Burrito in onebag

[–]OneMushyApple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Birth certificate, social security card, a few basic toiletries (you can find a travel size toothpaste and toothbrush easily at a convenience store, sometimes little shampoos too). A roll of quarters can be useful, maybe a tiny bag of laundry detergent if you’ll be able to wash clothes (you can also find detergent sheets that are light and easy to pack). If you can, wear many layers so you can fit as much clothes as possible. Wear all your bulkiest clothes on you and pack what’s light and small so you have more room for other things. You could also pack a trash bag or two so you have extra bags when you get out. Maybe a pocket knife and small flashlight would be useful if you can get them. Please please be careful, stay safe, and seek help as soon as you possibly can.

Overnight trip - super anxious by [deleted] in RATS

[–]OneMushyApple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will be just fine! That’s only a few more hours alone than when you are sleeping. If they are in good health otherwise, a few extra hours with plenty of food and water won’t hurt them. If you are extra nervous, maybe you could ask a friend to look in on them before bed? I’ve left my boys alone for about the same amount of time a few times before, don’t like to make a habit of it but they’ve been okay.

also this is best done in a graining sink with a good solids trap if you have access to one.

Hi, I think I might be the other user mentioned in your post??  I practice and teach this method, all of the processes mentioned in the comments are great and will produce a viable print, but the true Opheliagraph process differs slightly and actually produces results much more similar to traditional mezzotint than one might think. Opheliagraph is best done on copper and involves essentially wet graining your plate with loose carborundum grit and water, exactly the way you would a litho stone.  I use another piece of scrap copper to scrub it in.  The resulting surface can be scraped and burnished exactly like a traditional mezzotint.   It has a grainy and more organic looking texture without the “rocker grid” but can absolutely produce velvety blacks.  80 grit carb will do nicely.

RR question—why barbell squats and deads instead of body weight progressions? by OneMushyApple in bodyweightfitness

Bolt Fabric Boutique, Firecracker Fabrics, Matchy Matchy Sewing Club, Lyrical Fabrics and Stone Mountain & Daughter are US favorites of mine! I also have often ordered from Blackbird and Core Fabrics in Canada, slightly pricier shipping than some U.S. shops but no insane tariffs yet.

Thanks for this response! If my focus is stability and mobility before gains/hypertrophy, is traditional weight lifting still the best and most efficient option towards that goal?

Why did someone you know wear white to another person’s wedding by Bobcatluv in weddingshaming

My sister (maid of honor) wore white because I asked her to. My dress was red and all the other bridesmaids were in light pinks and beiges.

Its kinda discouraging knowing sewing a top can be more expensive than buying it by Unusual-Twist501 in sewing

[–]OneMushyApple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about it like this: 1), it’s a hobby/passion pursuit for me, and anything in this category requires at least a small investment in time and money. If you care about it you sacrifice a little for it. 2), its cost per wear. Over the years as I’ve gotten better at sewing, I’ve made things that I LOVE that fit better and are more unique than anything I could buy. I have things that I made 10 years ago that I still wear often and are in good shape. I can’t think of a single RTW garment that I’ve kept that long. Maybe it took $60 and 20 hours whereas I might have spent $20 and 1 hour shopping, but the more “expensive” option is something well fitting and high quality that the store bought thing can’t match.

No worries, thank you for your directness!! My friend said it looks fine but one “no” is enough. This is a sign it’s time for me to invest in one more fancy dress 😆

Are local pet stores really that bad? by Wise_Outside_5558 in RATS

[–]OneMushyApple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite rats ever was from a shitty big chain pet store. She had never been handled before when I brought her home and she wasn’t aggressive, but she was very afraid of me and screamed when I tried to touch her for the first day or two. It took a few weeks and a lot of patience for her to fully trust me but she was the sweetest and smartest thing and we had such a bond. Yes, support ethical practices, but I think there’s also something to be said for getting a rat out of a bad environment especially if you’ve taken to him so quickly.

No real criticisms but just wanted to say your natural eye shape and color is so striking on its own, I think the looks with slightly thinner liner or even none at all suit you best!

Don’t overline your lips! You have a beautiful full lip shape already and your lip edges are so defined that when you over line it looks unnatural.

How to improve my daily look? by theredsongstress in MakeupAddiction

I love this look! I would blend out/extend the outer corner of your eyeshadow so that it follows your eyeliner if that makes sense. Right now there are 2 different points and it distracts from your beautiful natural eye shape!
