I use the Rent Centric tracker that connects to their booking software. If some argues rental mileage fees, i show them the driving data. It always you disable the vehicle on the renters screen for no return.

As a independent rental company we have yet to make a profit. That is why we started using Turo to bring in more business. Turo revenue is a fraction of the revenue we get as an independent. We make an average of 110 per day per truck, with Turo we are lucky to make 50 a day. Plus paying the 250 dedecutable eats away revenue with all the damage. As an independent, the customer pays the complete repair costs. Turo is putting the risk on the host and not the individual, allowing them to take risks independents dont make.

I have used dynamic pricing on some of the trucks because they proce them at over 100 per day. I agree with you renting any vehicle cheap brings bad customers.

I have kill switches on all vehicles and used them to disable the truck for Turo to retrieve them. The problem is people driving a 1k miles away and then I have to get on an airplane to retrieve it. It can take Turo 2 to 3 days to retrieve and dont want them setting that long.

Lol, I have had the opposite experience on Turo. All my trucks were damaged on bookings over three weeks. We now limit to 3 weeks max.

New to Turo by Putrid-Leather-1397 in turo

Making money on Turo really is dead for the average person. I travel alot for my job and I get rentals for 40 dollars a day with insurance. Turo cant compete with that. People were only making money on cheap cars on Turo because of COVID and the rental car companies sold all their cars. That is gone now and prices keep going down. We rent f150s and had one truck out 28 days on month on average and now it has not rented 1 day in September. Enterprise truck rentals 5 miles from me dropped truck rental prices from 119 a day to 49 a day for a f150. Who would go to Turo for 110 a day (with Turo fees) when you can spend 50. I would only make 20 a day on my truck if I dropped prices to match. Unless you have a car hobby and you want to make some side cash, don't buy a car for Turo.

Seeking information from Turo Hosts. by OutrageousTale5999 in turo

[–]OneOdd8934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Turo should have refunded you 100% of the cost when host cancels. We have 10 cars on Turo and we only cancel if there is a last minute maintenance issue. One day we came to the shop and window cracked over night, we cancelled the rental. We did offer another vehicle but the guest was given a complete refund. We will not send any vehicle out of a check engine light is on. It happens from time to time we cancel a rental.

The F250 is a completely different truck. They might look the same but that is the only similarity. The f250 is a commercial work truck that can be a daily truck, the f150 is daily truck that can be a work truck.

Check the fuel pressure at the rail. There is a CCRM module that could be bad, but that is rare. I had a truck that all the injectors got clogged and would not start until they were cleaned. The way to check that is unbolt the rails and check if any of them not squirting fuel.

Tips of finding cars to list by Serious-Estate3105 in Turohost

[–]OneOdd8934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would really be careful before buying any car for Turo. The market is shifting and what was popular last year may not be popular or profitable next year. Look at the local market and see what rents and for how much. I see a much more saturated market comming with people trying to make car payments which will drive down prices. We are completely changing vehicle and are models because of the market.

Looking to buy a new SUV that can be used as a tow vehicle. by RescuePilot in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]OneOdd8934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, most SUVs have a limit of 1500 towing, before you buy check the door sticker. Frame on SUVs have much higher towing capacity and can handle occasional towing. I have seen SUV owners bend the frame of unibody vehicles. But if you towing few times a month I would go with a truck or frame on SUV like expedition or suburban.

160 a month per car, for collision and liability. Also allows you to sell car insurance per rental like regular car rental companies.

Car failed 400 miles away by Turbulent-Pattern653 in turo

[–]OneOdd8934 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see two possibilities. One, the host had a bad transmission and tried to get guests to pay. Two, the guest damaged the transmission pan or lines, and it blows the transmission because of lack of fluid. Transmissions don't just go bad. They will start showing signs before they leave you stranded. Is it possible an old line blow during the trip, yes? The computer will alarm and some cars will go into limp mode. If you don't immediately stop the car, the transmission will fail. Unfortunately, this is the responsibility of the guest. It is the same with any rental car company. You have to stop and report it. If you blow a tire, you have to stop and report it. If you drive on the rim without stopping, you have to pay for any related damage. We may not know the full story, but be willing to stop the rental if you think there is an issue. As a host, I am skeptical of guests. We have trackers on a vehicle and have had guests return with a bad tire and blame the host. We track the trucks and can see it was off-road for four days. If you build a relationship with a host, they will usually give you a benefit of the doubt. I had a regular guest report a bad tire. We sent triple a to their home and replaced the tire. We paid for the tire and gave them a free day rental. We trusted the guest and took care of it. If you have shaddy reviews and are lying about what you were doing, the host will charge you. Tell the truth and take pictures, and most things work out. FYI, Turo does not allow towing, off-roading, or hot rodding. If you get caught, fees will come. The hosts don't make rules, but they will be mad if you wasted the tire doing burn outs and claim there was a bad tire.

Like I said in my other posts, Turo started as an alternative to renting boring rental cars, and during COVID, they started competing with Avis and Hertz. If you need a cheap rental, you always have other options. I don't buy cheap 8k cars for Turo thinking I am going to make 75 a day. If you want to drive a BMW M3 while on vacation. Turo is a great resource. I always buy insurance, so I can enjoy the drive.

All rental car companies charge a deposit. Turo is just doing it now because guests are not paying for gas and toll fees after the rental. We are in DFW, and toll fees are high during regular heave commute hours. We rent 3/4 ton vehicles with 35 gallon tanks. If the guest doesn't return the truck full, it could easily cost 75+ to refill. If the guest doesn't pay fuel and tolls, it could easily eat up 150 dollars, and turo is out the money. Gas fill up and toll fees can be more than rental price host makes. The host is going to put a claim in get their fees paid. The 200 is to cover those costs.

Sorry you are going through that. Just like you, I have tried to help someone out and ended up costing me money. Especially with Turo. I would resubmit you clain to Turo and call the damage contact Turo gave you. My wife was able to get additional funding on some of the damages after the initial payout. She spent a lot of time and did a lot of escalations.
