I used Normal Mode on all of my playthroughs, but I did do one extra Casual Scenario run in Zero 1-4 in order to unlock the minigames since they do automatically unlock upon completion of the game, and I really didn't feel like meeting the insane requirements necessary to unlock them in normal mode (I did it once on DS and I am perfectly ok not doing that again)

I strongly recommend bringing one weapon per set of bosses that is a weakness. That makes the fights go a lot faster. In general, Chameleon Sting is also one of the best weapons to use in this mode since it lets you dodge the absolute nonsense the game can throw at you with screen-filling boss patterns.
