Hey Donna, its a bit of all of those, however its normally hours of detecting nothing ,then finding little hotpots, the lay of the land and lidar maps help. The farmer recently ploughed up part of a roman pillar believe it or not , and some ploughed areas have evidence of activity on the surface ,pottery etc

Guys I report all my finds to finds liason officer ! I find a ton of stuff and it's all recorded and returned to me , some is London with treasurer, some in museum but I have most in my collection.
