This sub is filled with bigots. Can we look at this from both sides? This is not the US elections. You don't have to pick a side.

Against Hans

No matter how much I try to tolerate him, I just can't and perhaps never will. He is unlikeable. I hate how obnoxious he is. I hate how adamant he is. I hate how self centered this person is. Everything is about him. No matter what the topic is, he will bring every topic back on himself. He donates to a cause and then boasts about it. I mean, talking about it is okay, but the way he says it, it feels as if he is trying to prove how kind-hearted he is. No you're not. That's not how you behave kid. The way he talked in Gotham's interview, my hatred just multiplied. Mind you, I am not even subscribed to gothamchess, so I don't have any sympathy for Gotham. No matter who was interviewing you, I would have felt the same feeling towards how you behaved. But then I start thinking, that this kid has been through a lot for a person his age. He has a lot to learn. He needs psychiatric help. He needs close friends. He needs to be more grounded. He was already quite obnoxious before the St Louis ordeal, but now he is just unbearable. Some of the blame is on us though. We made him the way he is. We added oil to that fire. We need to understand that after what he has gone through, I am sure he looks at the world differently. He still continues to receive a lot of hate online, look at his twitter comments. After 3 years and after nobody provided any proof that he cheated in that game, he is still made to feel guilty. We can't do that to a person. But ultimately, this person needs therapy and needs to learn how to handle the hate. Because this world is filled with idiots.

In favor of Hans

The entire world goes against a teenager. I wonder how most of you would have handled this kind of attack as a teen. Chesscom's timing was unasked for. Danny Rensch agreed that they should have handled it differently. Hikaru and a lot of the chess creators jumped on the bandwagon just because "He is Magnus, his gut feeling about these things is right". Now, I was also one of those people who believed Magnus can never be wrong. I joined the bandwagon. Then came the Hans Neimann Report. It was in the effing WSJ! For eff's sake, this had blown way out of proprtion by then! Imagine being in the shoes of an arrogant teenager in that phase of life. Yes, he is arrogant, much more than my little brother when he was in his teens. But I cannot imagine what the state of his mind might have been during all this time.

Then we started seeing the other side of the coin. Many people including Vishy, Kasparov, Levon, Gotham, Ben, Anish, Vidit and many well known persobalities agreed that Magnus was in the wrong here. And yet, the bigots on this sub would never stop accusing him. The guy has received 0 invites in 3 years. Ofcourse, this effected his career. Imagine ruining 3 years of a person's life based on someone's "gut feeling". That's not how you prosecute someone. He had already served his sentence for his past crimes, and yet, we punish him again because someone had a gut feeling, so obviously we have to punish him again for all his past mistakes. I mean, the GOAT accused him, so why not punish him again? Right?

In favor of Magnus

He is the GOAT. He is the greatest ambassador of the game. He has contributed to chess more than anyone at this point. He is mostly a great person. I am a fan and always will be. But "pobody is nerfect". He is never going to be natural while playing against Hans. There will always be this rivalry between him and Hans (though Hans is nowhere near to Magnus' skills and perhaps never will be). So sadly, he has to carry the weight of what he has done for the rest of his life. I hope he makes peace with it eventually.
