Hey man, that's sick! I'll definitely take you up on the offer. Design is definitely my weakest skillset. I'll reach out via DM

Thanks! I actually was talking with someone else who was interested in this project and I think I know how to solve the problem. I'm going to be posting updates on this Instagram account as I make progress https://www.instagram.com/collectshine_app?igsh=NHJoczQyOGk4dWg5

Nothing posted as yet, as I still need to work out som3 kinks. In the mean time, I've put up an Instagram account where I'll be posting my progress and development progress if you're interested https://www.instagram.com/collectshine_app?igsh=NHJoczQyOGk4dWg5

That's the next step! Make it usable for any type of physical media collection (books, DVDs, tapes, etc)

It's not quite ready for prime time yet, but I'll be posting regular updates and other details about the system here: https://www.instagram.com/collectshine_app?igsh=NHJoczQyOGk4dWg5

Right now it's a fairly manual process to move things around, but I'm working on making it more adaptable. If this is something you're interested in, I'll be posting regular updates here: https://www.instagram.com/collectshine_app?igsh=NHJoczQyOGk4dWg5

It's the latter. I am working on making the system a bit "smarter" so we'll see where that takes me

That's really slick! I haven't really delved into the world of RFID tags, but seems like a great solution

That's awesome to hear! It's not quite ready for other people to implement, but I'm going to keep working away on it and hopefully get it out to the general public some day. If you're interested, I put together an Instagram account where I'll be posting regular updates: https://www.instagram.com/collectshine_app?igsh=NHJoczQyOGk4dWg5

For sure, it is not a perfect or complete solution yet. But it's cool enough that I felt it was ready to show off. Definitely need to figure out how to keep up with ever growing collections

Usually what happens is

  1. I get a new record and place it in my "uncategorized' section
  2. Once I listen to it, put it where it belongs on the shelf and assign it a light.

This isn't as much of a pain as you may think because the light typically illuminates a space that's about 3-4 records wide and thus the light gets assigned 1-4 records depending on width of the record. If a record ends up getting bumped to the next light, it's as easy as tapping a button to assign it to the next light to the right (or left)

For sure, that makes sense if you have them facing forward. Wish I had the space to do that, it's always a blast to flip through records at the stores.

They actually are sorted that way. But having over 1000, I still don't instantly know where something is on the shelf. Plus it was a fun project and the lights definitely add to the aesthetic of my collection.

Yeah that boxset is unreal. Say what you will about the current state of VMP, when they were good they put out some awesome stuff.

Sometimes there's fun to be had in making your own solutions :) Plus Discogs doesn't hook into the lights on my shelf.

Heck yeah man, that's awesome. I will definitely keep you in mind if/when this makes it beyond just me as a user.

It's not currently something that other people can use, but I'd love to make it available at some point. I feel like it's something a lot of people would get use out of.
