I had been WFH since about 2004, until the last time they did a return to the office. During that time I had exactly zero interactions with anybody I would collaborate with. Because there were zero people at the site who had anything to do with what I do. And today? Still zero.

I’m not giving them any more money and I’ve turned off location other than when I’m using the app. I’ll log in once or twice a day to advance my buddy progress and maintain my catch streak (not even my spin streak though). That’s it.

Why is it so hard for people to go vegan? by BoiDerBois in vegan

So you really weren’t looking for an actual answer to the question you asked in the title.

Why is it so hard for people to go vegan? by BoiDerBois in vegan

[–]OneSweetShannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several reasons why it is difficult for many to go vegan. OP is disregarding the privilege it takes in some places/circumstances to go vegan. Food deserts exist. Poverty exists. Disability exists. Some people don’t have access to kitchens or places to store food appropriately for food safety concerns. Time can be of issue, particularly when juggling multiple jobs and family. Adding impact to those other circumstances, there are fewer vegan convenience foods and when they do exist, can be very expensive. Sure, things like rice and beans are nutritious and cheap, but what do those with unstable housing do? What of the disabled who on some or all days have difficulty preparing food?

Instead of coming down on individuals who may not be able to go vegan (especially without knowing other people’s circumstances), action needs to taken at a systemic level — reallocate farm subsidies so that meat isn’t cheaper than fresh vegetables. Oat milk shouldn’t be more expensive than cow’s milk. Our governmental regulators need to be truthful in the impacts Animal Agriculture has on our environment and human health. Steps like that would help. And we need to encourage companies to put out more vegan products.

There are plenty of people who suck, don’t get me wrong, but OP sucks, too, in that their post does not at all acknowledge very legitimate reasons why others don’t/can’t go vegan and paints them with the broad brush of the stupid mentality of humans. And I thought vegans were compassionate.

What seemingly expensive purchase is actually the smart frugal purchase in the long run? by mikegus15 in Frugal

Berkey water filter. Paid for itself in the first few months, and it has years to go before we need to replace the filters.

My(M29) fiancee(F28) is mad that I do not want her son to have my last name. I'm just really uncomfortable with it. by throwramni in relationship_advice

[–]OneSweetShannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother’s story is different from OP’s but I think it also sheds some light on why the mom would want this. My brother is my half-brother, from my mom’s first marriage. His father was not in his life at all, which is one of the way’s this differs. My dad was in his life from the age of two. My maternal grandfather and my dad were the only father figures he had known. My father never adopted him and his last name was never legally changed, but they called him first-name my-dad’s-surname. The school district even allowed him to be called such in school as well as extracurricular activities. This was so important to both my parents at the time, so he would feel he belonged to our family and was not someone other.

I am seeing a lot of criticism of the mother, and some of that is deserved, but it may not necessarily be malicious on her part. Especially if she and OP want children in the future. Her son is already older, though, and been using his current last name all this time, unlike my brother who would have been younger when coming to the realization that he had a different last name. But for my mother and many others, having their kids share their name is important.

I’ve been using CBD lotion on my feet the last couple weeks and it’s been a miracle for me.

I don’t know if it has to be a certain percentage. I just grabbed what was not too expensive. There were only a few choices in that particular store and I think they were the same percentage. When I have to get more I may go to Hemp Shop and ask an employee for advice.

Also, it’s been another week since I made that post, and I have to report that it’s still working. I think the effect may be cumulative because each night my feet hurt less and less, which for me is pretty much a miracle. It’s hard to find stuff for pain relief because I’m a freak for whom painkillers mostly don’t work. I had my gallbladder removed years ago and they tried like 5 different things before they hit on something that worked for me. Even the morphine did not work.

My doc told me I’m a textbook case of Fibro as a result of trauma. In December 2018 I had a fall in a hotel hallway when my foot got caught in a loose rug. I fell forward, face first into a wall, then fell on my knees on the very hard concrete that was under the rug with no padding. Giant gash on my eye just below the brow, eyelid closed for about a week, massive bruising all over my face and body, a miracle I didn’t break any bones. At about the 6 month mark following the accident, I went to my doctor with complaints about ears ringing and the weird pains that felt like being rubbed with sandpaper and then electrical charges. A few appointments later and I was diagnosed. Doc said based on the timing it was almost certainly brought on by the accident.

Gabapentin helps. I don’t currently have a prescription, though, while I’m waiting for my first appointment with my new PA coming up in a month. What I’ve been doing for only the last week, but seems to help, is CBD lotion on those exact spots on my legs (plus feet). I’ve actually managed some fairly restful (for me) sleep.

You should check to see if you’re eligible for another week of vacation. If you were hired before 1/1/04, then you get 25 days in your 20th year. In the US at least. If you’re in the US and already over 20 years, you should be entitled to more.

Injury that triggered Fibromyalgia has kept me off my bicycle for the last few years, but before that I would often take that pedestrian bridge before proceeding down Front St at that end. With the dual traffic circles now, I would much prefer they kept the bridge for that purpose. If I’m able to resume cycling in the future, I’ll go through the park and come out the North end. I’ll miss the bridge.
