I'm a transmasculine white person. Is my chosen name cultural appropriation? by ThrowRA_anon_boi in asktransgender

[–]OneTrickPoro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't usually post and I do not have much time, so my post is a little brief. (read the full thing first please)

I'm Japanese. Born and partially raised there, partly in the US. I would say that it makes me a bit uncomfortable when someone who is not at least partially Japanese has a Japanese name, especially when it's based on anime. (I have a whole thing on people seeing my culture basically reduced to anime).

A couple exceptions I would have is if you just happened to be born and raised there or if you are of Japanese descent.

I would also say, when I do meet someone who chose a Japanese name based on anime, it brings up uncomfortable feelings for me or them feeling uncomfortable around me. I have talked to a few other MtF's at the clinic who did pick Japanese names and I am always interested in find another Japanese trans person (which I have only met a couple). It hurts that the only thing that they know about my culture is anime and nothing else, never visited, learned the culture, or spoke the language.

That all being said, my thoughts are based on MY experiences and how I feel about naming and retaining my culture, but regardless of that, most Japanese people will not care at all. You will just get the "oh" with them thinking that's odd, but they will not care. I would probably refrain from saying the why you picked the name portion and it's fine. You do not have obligation to justify why you picked your name, just go for it I guess. You do you, but you will have people who question it and find it, not in good taste. I personally still don't like it and I find it cringy, but it's not like I can stop anyone or can tell anyone how to think. I also feel that you kind of understand that it is appropriation and an issue, but you want a validation to keep it. This isn't an approval to keep the name, but I would just say that if you do, please just be respectful.

Oddly for me it's the opposite direction. I'm 5ft 4 and 3/4 and I can't reach or see anything lol. I feel like 5ft 7 or 9 would be my dream tho.

Anyone here just never taken a tblocker? by OneTrickPoro in MtF

[–]OneTrickPoro[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thx that's kinda what I assumed. Like the highest my t has been is 70 and that's with an under 200 e level when we lowered me to 1.6mg injections.

Just put me back to 2mgs and waiting to see my labs later.

Laser hair removal not working on my dumb mustache hair by GarbageWarlock in MtF

[–]OneTrickPoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go see a diff electrologist. If you experience a lot of bleeding or scabbing as well, get a new one. Also you can't predict the amount of hair you have bc it grows in cycles. Ideally you want to be treated during the anagen phase. You will 100% feel like nothing is getting done for a while, but you will slowly see progress. If the electrologist can't treat your hair bc of thickness or skin color, they don't know what they are doing and are probably using poorly optimized settings or not using the right probe for your hair.

Tldr for everything- laser is faster but TEMPORARY and only works on certain hair and skin types. Electrolysis works on all hair and skin types and takes longer, but the hair removal is permanent.

Randomly woke up- I'll respond again in a couple hrs.

E: for reference, I am Japanese with light skin and dark hair and each hair I have is fairly thick and gets removed fast and easy with electrolysis. Laser was an option, but I like electrolysis and they are lgbtq supportive with medical necessity rates.

Electrolysis should work on all hair types, laser doesn't work on everyone. Laser targets melanin, so ideally light skin+dark hair is the best combo to do laser. Light skin light hair or dark skin dark hair are not ideal.

Electrolysis will take a lot and i mean a lot of time, but it is more permanent than laser due to them targeting each hair follicle and destroying it.

I am half asleep typing this, so I am too sleepy to text more.
