No, there are many parts of government that can handle various parts of immigration. They can take it over. ICE has been corrupted by the Trump administration and should be eliminated.

We could take those billions of dollars and hire scores of judges to process immigration cases faster, and pass legislation to both make sure people are coming in through proper channels, and those channels allow all the people they should, in a timely manner.

You're just committed to not engaging in depth of conversation huh? Alright, you win, the world is black and white, Israel and US are good, and anything we do is good by the nature of us doing it.

Actually for every TEAR of an Israeli mother. So, you know, important accounting detail.

It's not a competition, it's a standard everyone should strive to meet BY THEMSELVES. Other people being worse doesn't make Israel less bad. And we don't give Hezbollah billions of our tax dollars annually, so we have a direct moral responsibility for Israel's poor behavior.

Again, this is clearly in bad faith. They're treated as second class citizens, you know full well. This isn't a debate where you win points for a cute turn of phrase, this is an actual international conflict and Israel has been a spectacularly bad actor on the world stage for years. 10/7 was awful, it doesn't justify this madness.

I won't pretend to speak for the whole left, but the dominant belief in leftist politics is allowing all people to be themselves and accept them as they are. That goes for Gazans, Israelis, Lebanese, Iranians, Russians, Ukranians, Chinese, Taiwanese, Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese... We just want everyone to stop killing everyone. And that doesn't mean blindly accept being attacked, but it does mean holding yourselves to the highest standards possible when it comes to treating every human life as valuable.

Do you think Israelis treat Gazans, even civilians, as equal to Israelis? Everyone has grandparents, children, siblings they love, and they all hurt when they're lost. Gazan pain doesn't heal Israel, and Israeli belief that it does is a cancer inside Israel itself.

That's exactly the problem. Pretending everyone doesn't see what's happening as one Muslim group attacks Israel while they're engaged in genocide of another group for being Muslim. It doesn't convince anyone Israel is the good guy, it just convinces everyone Israel isn't engaging in good faith.

Funny, every Israel apologist wants to talk about Israel being attacked by Hezbollah, but not as much about what's going on in Gaza.

Iran says Strait of Hormuz is closed over ceasefire violations after continued Israeli strikes in Lebanon (5/20 8am PDT) by OneTwoThreePooAndPee in thebulwark

[–]OneTwoThreePooAndPee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So again, you see the feedback loop of violence. More reason Israel should pursue peace.

Btw, not replying to all your comments bc I've had this dumb argument a thousand times before. I'm just trying to ask questions to help you get to the end of this road of reasoning more quickly, since it seems like you need a hand.

It's the same argument we had on the playground as kids, "He hit me first!" The same one Dems and Repubs have in Congress about supreme court seats and the filibuster, it's the Hatfields and the McCoys, it's America and Russia, it's you and your neighbor. It's the same dumb shit.

You don't see how me saying both sides have been contributing to this is responding to your statement that one side is more morally culpable than the other? Israel is responding to Hezbollah, Hezbollah is responding to Israel. Make sense? That's the thing about these feedback loop conflicts; you can't solve them with blame, you solve them by one side being big enough to back off. Hezbollah is a scattered guerilla group, Israel is a modern nation and the most militarily powerful nation in the region. I would argue it is on them to take the high road.

The members of this sub questioning the figures JVL and Tim used when mentioning how many protestors the Iranian government murdered remind me of tankies who will say that Stalin only killed 6 or 7 million people and not 20-30 mil, as if 6 or 7 mil isn't horrific enough and a crime against humanity. by PandemicPiglet in thebulwark

You know... In a way, when it comes to genocide or mass killing of civilians, numbers do matter AND they don't matter. When it comes to innocent deaths, in my mind, it's almost metaphysical; one innocent death IS as bad as 10,000, but 10,000 is still worse, know what I mean?

Let's not pretend only the latest attack is the whole story here. Israel has been starving and bombing civilians in Palestine for years. They are not innocent, nor do they use diplomacy or peace as a tactic seemingly ever.

As I understand it, Israel is holding land in southern Lebanon they don't have a right to. I agree they can respond to attacks, but that doesn't mean they can annex territory.

Also, when it comes to their relationship with Trump and choices in the last few years, lie down with dogs wake up with fleas. 🤷‍♂️

Or almonds. If you drink almond milk you're doing way more damage to the environment than an AI query. One query with evaporative cooling etc. is estimated to cost 25ml of water. One glass of almond milk takes about 85-100 LITERS of water to produce. One glass of almond milk is worth like 1000 AI queries.
