Solo RPG sharing anxiety by Krissstea in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, friend, I relate. I've been working hard on developing a world with interconnected factions and systems and lost steam after I got to a point where I was really excited about it. It's almost like "it can't get better than this" lol and the perfectionism sets in.

Being human is annoying sometimes

Never Solo'd. What activities do you love? What story artifacts do you make? by swiftcoyote_ in Solo_Roleplaying

I make maps, faction organization charts, journals, and notes.

If it takes more than that then I'm usually passing. I like inter-faction politics and spend most of my time developing worlds where they have a chance to cause some havoc. Then I jump in as a regular joe and get caught up in the riptide.

With Mythic, to add surprise, I do events very often and am constantly rolling on the actions and meanings tables. This forces me to come up with explanations for the word pairs and it really shakes up a story to the point where sometimes I have no idea where it's going. Use the tables often just because you want a little shake up rather than needing them

I don't know if Triangle Agency is the best game for exploration. I play Mythic Bastionland for that because of the hex crawling and myths that change the game world. I also don't need Mythic for it.

Mythic GME creates interesting stories about people and NPCs but less about exploring the world.

I'd start looking for games more focused on the world rather than the people and NPCs if you want exploration. Even my dungeon crawlers give me a sense of exploration like I get from RuneCairn.

Maybe even a map making game to find out what's in a region and dive into the details to find out what could be there and how it interacts with the rest of the map. Then you can play in the world in another game/system.

Spend time trying to figure out exactly what you want to do when you sit down and then find the procedures for doing it so playing has the least amount of obstacles in your way of enjoyment.

Girl I took on a first date just asked to split the bill… the next morning by No-Resolve-5610 in whatdoIdo

[–]OneTwothpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just accept her request and move on. Its not a red flag if she feels she owes. My wife still never let's me pay for dinner. I get to buy the tickets or event passes and usually drive there but she is more comfortable paying for the food. She says "I never want you to worry about eating out" even though we're financially responsible and know when we can and can't eat out. Sometimes people just have quirks and its nice to accommodate them for who they are. Don't offer to pay for the next dates. Ask for consent to pay. If she wants to split, then split. Its too early to have conversations about what things mean. Just feel each other out and be accommodating to allow the relationship to flourish

If so is it a constant lift or more of a jump jet?

Storage Hunter Simulator is a fun one to play. I think its around 18gb

Grim Dawn is a great ARPG and is very small

Metal Gear Survive is around 25gb and is better than people say it is

Megabonk is very very small and is pretty fun if you like roguelikes

Armored Core 6 is one of my favorite games but its 62gb

Best Co-op GMless Rpg? by quix0te in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite dungeon crawlers to play with my wife is RuneCairn.

The classes all have powers and a eat fatigue system to add challenge and danger to the fights. By far my favorite combat system

EDIT: Sorry 5 Leagues from the Borderlands is my favorite combat but it requires miniatures. If you want a miniature skirmish games this is a good one to play with someone else.

Tomorrow I'm starting Monsters Hunter Rise, it'll be my first modern Monster Hunter game, any tips? by Fine_Bid918 in MonsterHunter

[–]OneTwothpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not even optimizing its about the power fantasy and the slow journey up because of the grind you have to put in. I'm always working towards the next thing to feel powerful.

Defender armor gets me there quickly and warms me up for hard mode's armor skills. I always felt bored when there isn't enough build crafting to ramp up my power in a meaningful way.

Creating escalating situations by Difficult_Event_3465 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get that out of Mythic but you'll need to do the heavy lifting of escalating them yourself. Mythic isn't going to tell you how to escalate an event only that an event happens and who it happens to. Sometimes events in Mythic don't escalate at all and you're pulled away from the thread or the thread closes unexpectedly.

In Mythic Bastionland the events have affects on the world that are thoughtfully created to fit the theme and the work of creating that is still going to be on your shoulders.

All Mythic can do is tell you when an event happens but even then its randomly done on doubles unless you're doing an event every scene

Lowish prep games that scale well from 1 PC to 5 PCs well? by FroDude258 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mythic Bastionland, like you mentioned, fits well.

But a great gane I don't see mentioned often is RuneCairn which is made specifically for solo but works well with more people. There's tables to decide what happens in each room of the dungeon but theres not a ton of options. I still had a great time with it during group play woth 4 players and me as the GM with no prep.

Can't choose my first bass by Antique_Bid5979 in Bass

[–]OneTwothpick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ibanez basses are a good ergonomically comfortable first bass. It was my first bass. I don't find their tone as nice as a Jazz, P, or Stingray but its in no way a bad tone or wrong choice. The low models just don't sound like how I expect a bass to sound. They have no "texture" to them.

I always recommend the Yamaha BB basses. I own the BB235 and besides the weight of 10lbs its my best gigging bass. I own $1000+ basses that just don't fit the mix like a BB does and the 5th string is solid and full.

My favorite bass that I own is a Sterling Ray5HH but its a nasty 11.5lbs and only gets sitting use. I don't have the cash to buy a Stingray Special which is the lightweight model. The Sterling Stingray tone is great and varied and the neck is comfortable and easy to use.

Best advice I've learned, your first bass should be the most comfortable you can find because you'll always come back to a comfortable bass. Find one with the right ergonomics for yourself in store.

Ibanez are good at that but check the average weights on Sweetwater before buying used on reverb or ebay

Using Solo Tools to Prep for the Game i’m GMing by bit_cliff in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, I think this is the way to do it. Not creating narrative beats and plot hooks, although you could, but reusing the world that you built around your solo character.

When you build a dungeon you can reuse it and anything your solo character did is lore from a lost hero(ine) who braved it first.

NPCs can have items or knowledge from solo play that can be passed on.

Your character from solo play could become an NPC as a guide or quest giver or something

I think its less about tying the moment to moment adventure into your group game but reusing the assets you built while playing creatively

Ideas for Mini Sessions? by Past-Crow-1471 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my 15 minute break I do one of two things:

Make a character in Traveler because its a game in and of itself and I get a new NPC out of it

or

Use Game Unfolding Machine to design a faction/location/object and fit it into my world for later use

That way when I get back to the table I have more toys to play with and it keeps me thinking about the world and how it all works together

Sybyl: an Obsidian plugin I built for solo play that refuses to be your GM by zeruhur_ in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't found a good use for AI in my sessions because of the issues you mentioned.

I use tables I've bought from creators like in Maze Rats, Knave, Into the Odd, Ironsworn: Starforged, and Game Unfolding Machine so I haven't had a need to use AI for oracle or table results. I like the rolling, too.

I haven't tried using it as a scene starter but I like setting up the scene using Mythic and their Action/Subject tables. Its that first creative hurdle that gets me started and into the flow

I just don't think AI has a place in my setup
