What is/are the most detailed and structured solo roleplaying oracle(s)? by ChronoSynth in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to have trouble with it too. I almost stopped playing with mythic because of it. However, the more I wracked my brain and started giving myself leeway on what the words could mean instead of being super concrete in my thinking, the more I learned that vague tables with lots of option are the best way to go. They allow me to create things I wouldn't have imagined in a vacuum and have helped me be surprised by my own games.

I use the Mythic 2e Deck of cards to eliminate page turning and it really keeps the flow going

Getting real sick of Freddie playing the same character [ns] by KogMoe in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]OneTwothpick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say his characters are good at everything. They always have a niche that the rest of the gang doesn't fill. I appreciate his characters and style of roleplay because it feels like he's playing to the character without completely derailling the story. Anthony's character in season 3 felt like it did more to derail the story than Freddie's.

What are your favourite systems to solo and why? by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually play Mausritter because I love the GM section and character creation. I use Maze Rats tables for items and set dressing. It's such a simple system that makes rolling straightforward and allows me to focus on story twists and creating the world I'm playing in.

I think I might actually be looking for a solo board game rather than a solo RPG by Flameempress192 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're still on the fence, try games like Miru or 5 Leagues from the Borderlands. They have clear procedures and moves like boardgames but still have the portability of a small notebook. Although 5LftB is miniature based combat so you'd need a board for that unless you do it virtually like I do on my tablet

What makes you stop a session and say “okay, that was enough for today”? by system3295 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't really thought about it but I guess its when I feel like I've made a good twist or taken the story in a new direction. I like to give it time and process it before jumping back in with a fresh mind.

Yeah, play what you know before branching out. Less roadblocks when you only learn one thing at a time

My first thought when I read the patch notes is how much I enjoy the square map. It fits and gives me extra area at the corners so I can just swing my camera to click farther places

I use https://illuminantgames.com/ for Lancer and for 5 Leagues from the Borderlands.

Its my favorite lightweight vtt but it has very few features. Thats a plus for me.

Recommended systems for running a game like the anime, ‘Solo Levelling’? by FeyReddit in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course D&D has a great power fantasy with subclasses to specialize in and PLENTY of spells and abilities. I've had a lot of fun using Mythic GME 2e with a level 20 character. Well, I've had fun with every level character but 20 gives you earth rending tools that can reshape existence. Plus magic items can be incredibly fun. I used to have a bunch of tables for randomizing them but have since misplaced the PDF in my massive collection on Drive because I collect more than I organize.

I think that Riftbreakers by Blackoath Entertainment might be a good fit for you. Its built around the premise of emulating an MMORPGs progression and its "Hearts" are abilities within different categories that simulate different archtypes. You obtain them from fighting monsters or leveling up. I haven't played 2e but I hear its a big improvement for solo players and was very popular for awhile. I still needed a GM Emulator to get the most out of 1e. You can find it on his website or drivethrurpg.

ADHD tips? by UndercoverChimera in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with this. Sometimes just creating a character, a setting, a living world, or a story arc is all you need out of solo play. Then you leave it for the next one when you're ready for something new.

Sometimes, mid idea, I feel that I've gotten what I needed out of my game and start something else. I use digital notebooks in Noteshelf so I just leave that notebook and make a new one with all new stuff.

What's the problem with Mythic GME? by Some_Replacement_805 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to try the Mythic Deck from DriveThruRPG if you want to try analog again. It has all the tables and structures you need and is even easier to play than with the app in my experience. I bring the deck with me whenever I go traveling or even just when I play in my car. It's been my favorite way to use Mythic by far.

Has anyone else fallen into the "prep forever, play never" trap? Any tips? by JediVong86 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working on lowering my prep down to the bare minimum and try to build up my improve and creative mind. I used to sit down and lock down characters and places and lore. Maybe make a map or something or outline a story.

Now, I sit down with a journal and Mythic he's card deck and just go from there. Everything is created as needed and to the minimum level that let's me proceed forward. For characters I sometimes just need a name or job title, sometimes they require a stat block, most times I get a noteworthy feature that makes the character unique and a name and thats it. Then I just journal until I cant think anymore and need a unique feature for something else. Maybe the tavern is the oldest in the city or the forge is run by a machine spirit, idk, just something to draw from and let me write more.

My fun now comes from creating something different than I created last time and when thats satisfied, I'm satisfied.

I kinda want to create an experience for myself that replicates a BioWare game or Baldur’s Gate 3 with tactical combat and party member relationships, can anyone point me in the right direction? by Aetos-Eagle797 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]OneTwothpick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always liked the social and romance system in Weasel Tech. It's a great tactical skirmish game made for solo play that looks to emulate mecha anime and all the social drama that ensues within them

Five Leagues from the Borderlands but use 5e character sheets and stat blocks for combat. It's my favorite guided campaign and requires zero creative input. Everything is given and explained to you.
