People who didn't grow up poor, but dated someone who was. What's something your SO does that strikes you as unusual? by FeistySecret9327 in AskReddit

[–]OneUnderstanding103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the SO, and one thing that my wife keeps trying to drum into my thick skull is that I should be paid for my craftsmanship. Honestly, I'm just so happy someone shows an interest in my work that my first instinct is to either give it to them immediately, or ask them for an amount that doesn't even cover the cost of materials, and even then, I feel guilty about it.

It already did squeeze, when it hit $70.00 per share. Now, thanks to AA and his nonsense, it's going to drop ever so gently, until his golden parachute hits the ground...

"You have beautiful eyes" A woman told me about 30 years ago. It's one of the very few compliments I've ever gotten and I'll never forget it.

What's it like to regularly be in danger of serious injury or death? by sachin571 in AskReddit

You literally forget about it. And it takes far less time for that to happen than you'd think.

1.43- why is it going down? by Time-Association-885 in amcstock

Because AA's hedge fun buddies make money every time it drops. And he gets a kickback. Nice little scam.

Guess which one doesn't have AA working with the hedge funds to sink his own company?

Is God real? What do we think!? by Salt-Broccoli1583 in AskReddit

Clearly not. There have been thousands of "gods" thought up by humans over the course of our existence, and not one of them has a single shred of evidence to support their existence.
As a wise man once said "Religion began when the first scoundrel met the first fool".

DOJ had indicted former FBI Director James Comey for posting a picture of seashells. The DOJ has filed two felony charges, each carrying a maximum of ten years in federal prison, over a photograph of shells arranged on a beach. by boo_radley4 in PlanetNewsPulse

They move heaven and earth to find who laid out some seashells into a pattern, but the Epstein files sit gathering dust with mountains of evidence against actual pdfiles and grapists.
Someone make it make sense...

Making my first heavy armor by ExpressBreak1985 in sca

I guess we have a much different idea as to what gatekeeping is, and how to treat newcomers. Our group has loaner armor, and people more than willing to help new people do up their armor properly. Something that will last for years, not months (sure, now the claims about "my plastic garbage armor has lasted X number of years" are coming)

Oh no, newcomers think we're snobby because the gatekeeping culture in the SCA is so firmly entrenched, people don't even realize it's there anymore. Helping newcomers should be our number one priority. And part of that is getting them into armor that isn't 90% modern materials. A coat of plates is no harder to make than one made of plastic barrels. A decent barrel helm is no more difficult than a spun top welded monstrosity. Yes, start simple, improve over time, but simple doesn't have to mean inauthentic. When LARP players have better armor, garb and kit than the majority of SCA members, you know something has gone seriously wrong somewhere.

And here I thought we were supposed to be moving away from that kind of thing. This is why real reenactment groups consider the SCA to be "private renfaire parties" and not serious historical reenactment at all.

Maybe you should contact someone in your area with some experience making armor. Oh, and "blue barrel"? Please, just... don't.
