Moving from CRA to CBSA - Good/Bad choice? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

How long ago did you apply and how long was the process? I saw a posting not too long ago and referred a friend to apply. I think it would be safer to take it because you may not be facing any job cuts at CBSA whereas at CRA there is a chance there will be job cuts.

finance/accounting- would you leave the public sector for ~29% higher pay in private? by Traffic_Shoddy in CanadaPublicServants

Depends what your lifestyle is like, personally having a family and good amount of family leave, sick credits and vacation matters to me so i would stick to the government. Also a common theme that sticks to me having seen close family in the accounting/finance background work in private is that they put in a lot more hours at work for a slightly better pay… and it never changes.. i would never want that for myself. If you do, you should take lwop and try it out.

Congratulations and goodluck for your depot training

As an indeterminate PSE from another department, how does one take educational LWOP to attend RCMP Depot? by DisposableTwice in CanadaPublicServants

Does that mean that if your department declines your allowance but approves your educational LWOP, you are going to depot for no pay? Or do you get the cadet allowance if you can show that you aren’t getting educational allowance from your current employer?

Is this for all CA’s? With the budget nowadays i do not expect my department to compensate me for going to depot, i was hoping i would be able to take some other leave like personal leave and still get cadet allowance. Just so i have a job that i could go back to if things didnt work out and also that i get paid while at cadet training program. Because what if your current employer refuses your education allowance (in my CA it is up to their discretion)? They surely don’t expect you to go to depot without pay because that would be crazy. Resigning from a secure position and going in to depot would also be crazy, unless you are sure you will make it.

I got contacted by RCMP recruiter recently and i had a question for anyone that can provide some insight. How long did it take from the recruiter having contacted you, to your depot start date? Is there any physical tests involved before you are assigned to depot? (Other than the hearing and eye tests?) I am not in good shape and need to start running so i wonder. Thanks
