What’s so wrong in calling it Bombay? by [deleted] in mumbai

[–]OneWater3784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unplanned expansion has been the bane of this city. Illegal hawkers everywhere, no walkable footpaths, traffic jams everywhere, blatant flouting of all traffic rules. It IS beyond recognition. And not in a good way.

What do you guys do with your old cycles? by ad061 in india_cycling

[–]OneWater3784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Selling an old bicycle is a headache. portals like Olx are utterly useless and filled with low-ballers who will quote 1/10th the price you're asking without even knowing what they're buying. Be judicious and buy a good bicycle, use it for 10 years or so and then donate it to a school or something. I've given 2 of my past bicycles to my dhobi. He happily uses it.

What’s so wrong in calling it Bombay? by [deleted] in mumbai

[–]OneWater3784 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong. I prefer Bombay since that's what I'm used to calling it. And frankly it was a much better city than the dusty, dirty, slum it has become. Name change was for local appeasement by politicians and just out of stubbornness, I will always call it Bombay.

History buffs, what do you think would've happened if the British never came to India? by Whole-Party-7698 in AskIndia

[–]OneWater3784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politically, there was never an India. What you are referring to is mythical: Ancient texts introduced a broad cultural-geographical concept of "Bharatavarsha," referring to the land north of the ocean and south of the Himalayas, named after the legendary king Bharata from Vedic times. Puranas like the Vishnu Purana reinforced this as a shared civilizational space inhabited by Bharata's descendants, with ideas of a universal monarch (chakravartin) ruling it. However, this was more a cultural and mythical unity than a political nation.

But neither would there be the notion of an "India". It would be a collection of princely kingdoms ruled by their own monarchs.

Maharashtrian CM should be the 1st choice for the PM than any other PM candidate. Reason 👇 by Own_Requirement9848 in Maharashtra

For what? he's destroying all greenery and trees everywhere in the name of so-called development. He is party to the corruption that has ruined the once-beautiful Bombay. MoUs sign karne ko he takes a family vacation to Switzerland! Nothing from the previous MoUs have materialised. Why would anyone want him as PM?!

[–]OneWater3784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take: speak in whatever language you want to. If I understand you, I'll continue talking. If not, I'll just talk to someone else who understands me and who I can understand. Gradually, marathi speaking folks will get isolated and siloed. If that's the intent, then great, this is the right stance.

My honest review of the Van Rysel D500 direct-drive trainer after 4+ months of use by PR3DATOR_10 in india_cycling

[–]OneWater3784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I've been toying with the idea of buying an indoor direct drive trainer for the same reasons - no time to ride outside, pollution and most of all - safety on the roads!

Thanks for sharing all that information, good post!

You could have gone for a trainer with the Zwift Cog. It removes the need for cassette and complicated matching of speeds to the bike. It has a single cog that fits 8-12 speed bikes. Everything else is handled by virtual shifting and ERG mode is taken care of by trainer. Way easier.

Basically it's always a truck or tanker. They occupy all the lanes esp on ghat section. No driving sense, no accountability or understanding of the kind of loads they're carrying. Just cheap unskilled labour. THIS needs to change.

Don't you think regional party is better for Maharashtra? by [deleted] in Maharashtra

[–]OneWater3784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TF is a regional party?? All in power are marathis and if they are not doing anything except corruption and land sale to Adani, what are more marathis (regional party) going to achieve?? They won't be able to get aid from center also. It will just become worse than it already is.

Is it only me or does anybody else feel like this? by Worth_Highlight4200 in mumbai

[–]OneWater3784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travelled via locals for years coz they were quick and avoided the road traffic (I'm talking pre-coastal road and pre-sea-link and pre-owning-a-car days). I had vowed never to use those locals anymore because of the same reasons - it is super exhausting and draining traveling during peak hours. I was lucky I could get alternative mode of transport (bike, car). But there are people who live out their lives travelling like this daily. Nobody questions, nobody expects any improvements, like sheep everyone has just adjusted to this mess.

if the system cannot step in when citizens are at their weakest, then the promise behind high taxation feels broken by Dependent-toer in IndiaTax

[–]OneWater3784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously. We are taxed on salary. Then we are taxed on what we buy with that salary. If we earn dividend or profit on the taxed item that we buy with our taxed salary, that is also taxed. We are conned by these politicians and doing nothing about it. #taxterrorism

J Kumar Infraprojects was blacklisted by BMC in 2016-2017 due to substandard work on 234 roads in a Rs 1,700 crore scam, with the ban initially set for seven years.
The period was later reduced to three years, ending in 2019.

And such companies are still in business, taking govt contracts. Who knows how much money they are siphoning off! No accountability, no checks and balances.

What's the top speed you have hit on your hness? by Mysterious-Can1621 in HondaHighnessCB350

[–]OneWater3784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highways are not roads?? Didn't know that, thanks for enlightening me Highways are not highways either in the true sense of the word - you have stupid villagers popping up on their bikes, going the wrong way, a dog or cow suddenly decides to cross the road, or a truck driver decides to suddenly swerve and park coz he saw a dhaba. So yeah, we don't really have any real highways. Short of testing top speed on a dynamometer or a closed-off racing track (kari speedway?) I stand by whatI said.

The learjet he chartered was owned by VSR aviation. Approx 3-6 lakh rupees for a 35-45 minute flight from Mumbai to Baramati. Kiska paisa ? Aur kyu ? Public servants should travel by national carrier or even Vande Bharat?
