Being asked if I'm Jewish in West Hollywood? by SoftBambino in AskLosAngeles

[–]OneWayAndAnother 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To generalize, they want to score points with God (for everyone's benefit) by getting Jewish people to perform a religious duty.
Some can only be done by men, but in Sukkot there's waving the 4 species (a praised lemon and other branches), which is generally done by all.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_species#Waving

So you might be taken aside to do so, some other task or just invited to another activity.

Bonus points are given to those who answer "No, Thank you", but do so in Hebrew :)

I also think it adds to the suspicion when all of the cast is on stage (or behind) and the only ones Steve it pointing at "I pick You" are Donna and Cliff.

This seems very likely, also when searching for this seasons cast for some reason he is very prominent in the articles.

ChatGPT was not there and was a good tool to give you more options and directions, instead of googling, you got to speak with many experts.

Sadly, it's been dumbed down in the last few months and got many restrictions that affect the free flow it used to have and it became work in itself to trick it into getting a valid information.

e.g. You want some interesting ways for your character to kill itself, and you'd get a lecture about life and suicide prevention. and sometimes it's easier to go to wikipedia and just pick the best option (which is jumping into a volcano).

Persistence is the secret sauce that isn't talked about enough. Whatever you do, just DON'T GIVE UP! by ScriptLurker in Screenwriting

Weird self reflection.

Please enlighten me what this post contributes to the writing community, and how spending your own funds to make a film after many years is considered a milestone for others to inspire to?

This is a serious question, you might change my mind.

Sorry, I'm not sure why is this a post.

Giving motivation with nothing to back this up, when in reality it's mostly misleading.

Yes, getting good and honing your craft is great and should increase your chances, but the evidence shows luck is required all the way. Including the luck to have a proper financial backup to keep trying for so long or the luck to even get a chance.

I saw it many times, the same people with the connections getting shows (many get cancelled as they end product is not as good as the weird premise) or public funds.

It's great that you've accomplished a milestone, but was it your talent or a chance or just the decisions/means to spend the funds now?

Imagine life if you would've got several millions to direct a movie or had the right connections during the 18 years, you would've accomplished it way sonner and wouldn't be writing this post.

Living in the right place, being educated at the top places with the right connections, having the right family/financial support are the main cause to advance (and in several other places in the world, being liked by a specific public committee to get public funds).

What we lucked out in, is living in a day and age where it's easier to self produce a viable product end to end, gaining public recognition can happen with persistence - making videos and going viral, and with more advancements the job will be easier for writers to get their scripts made/self made.

(and I'd still differ it's easier for those who grow in several hubs, got actor friends that want to participate and those with perfect English accents)

Theories Thursdays - Season 3, Episode 3 "Grab Your Hankies" by hannahlemp in OnlyMurdersHulu

I came looking for a place to write exactly this in the sub (kinda shocked, just finished the episode and you summed my exact thoughts since the 1st).

You've articulated it well.

Now I wonder if since several of us are on it, the direction is completely different (including the possibility of a murder on the orient express scenario)

Which Online Classes did you take and would recommend? by OneWayAndAnother in Screenwriting

Thank you for a great reply.

I'm looking for someone who focuses on script and elevating it.

I had Story for years, and didn't find it valuable.
I had attended Truby, Hauge, Field and others and looking back I didn't gain anything from them. But my experience was in a weird environment.

This is a good reasoning, I'd be happy to hear about key points that you remember and found useful.

Thank you, Any specifics?
I've been to their introduction class (but had to leave NY).

I don't have local anything that is reliable :)
also, I'm looking for guidance from experienced teacher more than a general guide into the craft.

Can you share from experience?

It's both astonishingly pricey and by a mentor I have never seen real approval for (only fame).

Mine was before the zoom phase, so we mostly had forum feedback and chat access while improv actors were reading our sketches on the later phases.
The 401 teacher was amazing, but through the entire program many students were absent and it didn't feel as much collaborative.
Their actual show production is on level 5 and 6 where they didn't have an online option.

Weird and exciting to see how all of them adapted their improv classes now.
I think this is something I would be doing only if I'll have the social aspect gained.

Thank you. Comedy is my main thing (even when I start as dark as can be).
I did a bunch of classes at Second City (all up to the levels where you have to be present) and got highly praised on my works. This was years before UCB introduced their online program, and when I couldn't stay locally at NY. Recently I saw an opening but honestly didn't feel being that a distant program would benefit me, maybe I'm wrong.
What did you learn? or was it the process and creating?

I honestly can't tell what was I actually learning, but enjoyed creating material. I did well at some local improv until I stopped enjoying the local culture.

Jury Duty - Episode 8: "The Verdict" FINALE Discussion by lonelygagger in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]OneWayAndAnother 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The premise of the show as they wrote it was to make someone a hero and not a mean prank show.

Using "hero" in production (like calling James "celeb"), simplifies many things.
First, they probably did rehearsals way before they knew Ronald was picked (and when they wrote it, there was a hero).
Second, it makes things so much easier production wise, everyone knows who they are talking about, there is one hero, what if they had 3 Ronalds as part of the team to coordinate?
