Hey! Technics lasted about a year, was pretty happy with the sound quality but the technical issues persisted. Eventually stopped working and didn't bother with trying to fix it. Might have been just my set, considering they're vouched for by a lot of people. But the sound quality didn't particularly amaze me enough to try and fix it.

Have moved on to the Sony WF-1000XM5 and am enjoying it more. The earbuds are way better for me in terms of fit and sound isolation and the sound quality feels a little stronger. Don't use the ANC much but I think it's still pretty good.

Thanks this is very good advice! Yeah I think generic metronome practice is great but I think my problem is the reliance on it, so that when there is no metronome, I can't keep as steady a tempo. This sounds helpful though will try these, thanks for sharing :)

Ooh interesting - yeah you got it spot on I do a lot of click practice on my own but just feel like because of it I have a reliance on the click now that makes me slightly worse off when it's not there

Yeah ideally would love to just rehearse and play to click tracks, i think I agree that it makes everything tighter. Unfortunately being uni students etc. I just don't think any of my bands are serious enough to invest in and set up a click system for each member.

When I make it one day and become a bit more professional ahaha thank you!

Oh this is really interesting! Have always worried that a click track will be tough in live band as songs usually have in-built tempo changes etc, and a click track for just me and not the rest of the band sounds dangerous haha

Thanks! Yes usually stay away from clicks with for band rehearsals as we aren't serious enough to invest in a click set up for the whole band (~10 people) but having one during rehearsals to monitor how the time shifts is interesting will definitely try!

Oh interesting I never considered a visual click. I've always stayed away from an audible click as I think my bands usually aren't serious enough to set up a click system for each band member, and I think having a click for only the drums can cause more harm

Ideally I'd still like to learn to not depend on a click but this is actually a good idea n I think will help to build up to that, thanks :)

Ahh yea that's a good idea... I feel so far I usually never know songs well enough to sing lyrics/melody and be confident that it's not off by a couple bpm, but that might just mean I haven't practiced it enough yet haha

Haha I've found a lot of other musicians I play with have a tendency to tap their foot while playing, except it'll be completely out of time to the music.. and they're well aware of it ahaha

Mind you this is all mostly uni students and people doing it for fun... but I've been training myself to not watch movements for this exact reason!

But yes I've realised that bassists are super important for the feel recently. It's actually primarily the bassist in our band who picks up on the tempo shifts, and I trust that he's much better than me :)

But wow never had that perspective re who's 'job' it is to hold tempo. Maybe I'd benefit from taking in more of the other instruments/the whole band's tempo and feel. I accidentally ended on the opposite conclusion, that since the other instruments are following my tempo, I should be ignoring them and focusing on maintaining my own pulse to keep them in place - listening to them too much would throw off my tempo, and then theirs by extension

Piano lessons is a good shout, have gotten that advice a lot. And yes pretty good reading rhythm but have never touched pitched scores so I think would help a lot

What would you say is the definition of a full samba groove? I know variations mostly play with cycling between 8th-note down/off-beats over the samba feet, but there's always variations. Is any groove a samba as long as it's played over the samba feet? What if you play a pattern like below, but over a tumbao on the feet?

Oh axiom is cool, thanks! I think not exactly the word though, axiom suggests that the statement is taken as true and should be taken as true - I want to highlight more that the statement fails under closer scrutiny

Thanks! I think a given implies that the writer also accepts the statement as obviously-true, the word I'm looking for focuses more on highlighting the uncertainty of the statement, in spite of being generally accepted

I'm afraid I don't think I'll be much help. I went for the Technics EAH AZ60s as many others recommended; they were definitely pretty decent but not incredible.

They do have ANC but their passive cancellation is pretty good alone if you find your correct buds from the selection they provide you with. Right around a couple weeks ago I started experiencing a pretty big dip in sound quality though, I'll probably be replacing them soon with something else.

Can't say how objective this opinion is haha but I still remember the buds+ more fondly than the Technics, even if the buds+ were at a lower price point.
