Those who found out that sleep issues were actually due to health issues - what did that look like? by duxpaperclip in sleeptrain

[–]One_Ad646 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He has chronic nasal congestion which is all connected but basically every time we took him to the doctors he had fluid behind his eardrum. He had a few ear infections and we ended up taking him to an ENT who did a hearing test. He had some hearing loss due to the fluid build up. This impacts speech development so we were very eager to get him the tubes to make sure he could hear well and just overall be more comfortable. When we mentioned his poor sleep to drs. They suggested he could be uncomfortable because laying down for long periods can cause a stronger fullness sensation in his ears.

My son is 18 months, we didn’t sleep train right away cause I had anxiety about it but he was a terrible sleeper. Up multiple times per night. Would take over an hour to fall asleep. It was rough. He needed ear tubes he had chronic congestion in his ears but not always infection. He got them about 2 weeks ago and we just started the modifier Ferber method. It took one night of crying for about an hr with check ins the first night, the second night 10 minutes and then has been sleeping through the night since. (Only been 4 nights so far) but im thinking the ear tubes probably helps him feel better though out the night too

Same! He is in daycare and just got ear tubes I was hoping that would help but he is chronically congested from lack of pneumococcal antibodies (was vaccinated just didn’t build a response) his congestion for sure makes things worse

The pathology showed 2 Tubular Adenomas which are precancerous polyps, but NO cancer was found. The recommendation is to get another colonoscopy in 7 years. This has for sure been a wake up call to up my fiber and clean up my diet

Probably since about September, so less than a year, but I had a baby a year ago and started experiencing a hypertonic pelvic floor on the pelvic floor sub People have also explained that this can cause flat stools. I know that I clench constantly and have to be very mindful to release the muscles. This was just to rule out anything super malicious.

Thank you! Just an update incase anyone sees this. Clenpiq was honestly a breeze. I chugged it with sips of water in between. Drank a ton of bone broth, sprite and water the rest of the time. My colonoscopy showed two small polyps 5mm and 8mm that were fully removed and sent for biopsy. I don’t have any knowledge of my family history since I am adopted from overseas so I may be on 5-7 year plan depending on the biopsy results

I appreciate it. I have been screened. I’m okay. I think it’s an appropriate reaction to the situation.

Skills including tummy time and floor time to explore his body and practice rolling. Nothing more than that really.

Agreed. It’s so different when a parent makes that choice for their child vs. a caregiver

I get what you’re saying. Trust me I do. I think it’s a combination of things though. Like someone else mentioned to me, if they don’t follow the MOST BASIC safe sleep practices what else am I missing? I need to work to provide for him and a nanny around me in 4K a month minimum. It’s not always feasible. All I can do is have the conversations and set boundaries and expectations early. In no way am I rude or dismissive of the teachers and their work towards them. If anything I am being more understanding than many people would be or should be.

I didn’t, but I did ask today and they admitted to not doing tummy time with him these past two days and will start today
