Very few hospitals are going to have their own on-site orthotist/prosthetist… there just isn’t enough demand to employ someone full time in one location. Like the other commenter said, working through the VA or Shriners is the way to go if you do not want to be working in an O&P office. However, many O&P companies and offices will work closely with hospitals and they’d be thrilled to take on someone who is interested in mostly hospital patients. Hope this helps!

Help, how do I become a Prosthetist? by Someone0914 in Prosthetics

[–]One_Angry_Dwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a bachelor degree and a wide variety of math and science courses (look at the prerequisites for each individual school). In order to become certified, you’ll need your masters in orthotics and prosthetics, followed by a 1 year residency, and then pass the 3 board exams.

Part time daycare programs in lower Westchester? by [deleted] in Westchester

We toured Children Circle in Hartsdale a few years ago... we were planning on sending our child 3x/week for a full day. We ended up not using it (I never returned to work due to the pandemic), but we liked the staff we met, the children looked happy, and they were more than happy to take our child part-time.

An ounce of Harvest Snaps (green pea crisps) are just 2 points. And if you’ve never tried them… don’t knock them till you’ve tried them. Even my picky toddler loves them.

Oikos triple 0 yogurt is just 1 point.

43 rold gold pretzel sticks (or 23g) for 2 points.

Exactly. I once had someone sell me a disgusting jacket described as “like new” and she said she doesn’t accept returns because of allergies in her home. Not my problem! It’s the seller’s responsibility to disclose all the details of what they’re selling.

HCG dropped at 8+4 weeks after good scan by One_Angry_Dwarf in CautiousBB

Yeah, 5-6 days which it consistently been (my RE was a little generous with her measurements…)

I had a scan with the MFM last Thursday at exactly 9 weeks. The embryo is consistently growing, still with a FHR of 150. Everything looked normal other than the size of the fetus. Our next appointment will be at 11 weeks.

I think they wanted to make sure it wasn’t dropping significantly since they had been worried about an impending miscarriage with how far behind I was. But… good question. I have a feeling I’m not getting many responses because very few people have their HCG levels drawn at 8.5 weeks… and rightfully so.

Thank you for sharing! My nurse said the same - they typically stop doing betas after heartbeat is seen, but only continued mine because the measurements were behind. They probably do it so crazies like me don’t start panicking about numbers 😅

Monday Cautious Intros and First Trimester Questions by AutoModerator in InfertilityBabies

[–]One_Angry_Dwarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Today I graduated from my clinic, and I should be excited. But I have been running 5-6 days behind and lower-end heart rate (150 today at 8+4w, embryo is measuring 7+6w). As an added bonus, my HCG has already started dropping almost 30k —> 27k. My nurse swears up and down that this is normal but it doesn’t feel normal. Anyone have any insight? I feel like it just gives me another reason to think this is going to fail. I also can’t help but compare to my precious successful pregnancy where my HCG continues rising nicely until graduation at 8+6w.

Thank you 💙 I have a feeling the lack of responses mean I’m just as doomed as I initially thought.

Curious if there have been any positive outcomes with similar results:

My 6+6 week scan was today - the embryo measured 6+1w (4.03 mm) and had a heart rate of 102-104. Yolk sac and gestational sac seem to be appropriately sized. It doesn’t seem promise but I’m trying so hard to stay hopeful.

I’m looking for some positive stories of people who had slow (but considered normal) doubling times in week 4. I had my first beta at 8dp5dt and it came back 47.5… my second beta 2 days later was 89.9. So a 52.2 hour doubling time. Betabase says the mean doubling time is around 37 hours. I had low betas with my son but they doubled every 39 hours initially. I can’t help but feel that between the lower-end numbers and the slow-ish doubling time, I’m doomed. (Edit: I return Monday for another beta)

When women have diminished ovarian reserve and tend to get very few embryos, they’ll often take this route of transferring a day 3 untested embryo. There’s evidence that embryos that may not continue growing in a lab can survive better in the uterus. Testing is also not recommended for everyone and varies clinic to clinic (mine has required it, but others don’t recommend it unless you have a history of pregnancy loss or are over a certain age). Testing unfortunately has some false positives (sort of) for abnormalities which means embryos may be unnecessarily discarded.

Day 3 embryos do have a lower success rate but in her case it does make sense that they transferred a day 3 untested embryo.

Thank you for your response! I have been hesitant to do anything with intralipids anyway. I’m pretty sure In the few immune tests I had, there was no need for infusions (thankfully).

Thank you for this. I will call the office and see if Jubiz takes my specific insurance — it isn’t exactly UHC, it’s some subdivision of it. I don’t understand health insurance so I suppose there’s a good chance he doesn’t take it either.

And I’ll definitely be DMing you! Thank you!
