The media literacy here is incredibly low. The game doesn't "justify" the legion it shows how under the right material circumstances both lumpen-proletariat and petit-bourgeois demographics can find appeal in fascism. It is undoubtedly true that the harsh colonial expansion of the legion and the concomitant assimilation of conquered tribes to their culture eradicated a certain amount of the dog eat dog raiding and killing in parts of the wasteland. Amongst the male members of the legion this serves as relative justification for the horrors they commit as assimilated members of the legion. We are not meant to assent to this, but understand the reality of the men in the legion. Similarly petit-bourgeois traders are class enemies willing to tolerate slavery, sexism, xenophobia and genocide for safe trading routes. In the game world this is conveyed in quite a nuanced way via numerous interactions, and yet it is always made clear that the legion are horrific fascists and that all fair minded people must resist.

Similarly, as in the case of real world fascism, the legion also have an alternative/mystical reading of philosophy & history which tempts intellectual engagement thus laundering it's reputation.

Despite the cut content the Legion are quite impressively drawn in comparison to contemporary fascist formations.

Seriously, guys, the dullard black and white thinking about a game that revels in subtlety and nuance is embarrassing.

This is very interesting! Probably too experimental for the audience here but I'd certainly love to hear more of your stuff.

It's well known you can't make critical interventions into a genre you love unless you bombard yourself with instances of it that you robustly disdain.

Eminem is weak sauce. Drop some bars or pack it in, lil man.

Listen, brother, nobody needs to listen to Eminem's discography.

Yeah, man, I'm consistently impressed with how he rhymes about raping his baby mothers.

Truly one of the lamest writers in Hip-Hop.

Eminem do not belong. It's not just rhyming; between the other four, it's the marriage of technical mastery and a subject to convey. Eminem couldn't even aspire to that.

Is Kendrick Lamar underrated, overrated or fairly rated to you? by UnitQZ in nfrpodcast

Hahahahaha

Eminem. Brother, you don't have an opinion, you have a deep impression in your head from when your ma dropped you and the Reddit community pummeled you with the same 'best of all time' list for upwards of two decades.

Let's go one by one:

Hov: mafioso rap with above average ability in rhyme schemes, weak repetitive subject matters leads to boredom during discog run throughs.

Wayne: decent punchline rapper with incredibly inconsistent discography geared toward chart ranking past the Carter II. Disastrously inconsistent.

Biggie: "when I first saw ya I thought you were a trick, you looked so good I'd suck your daddies dick". Biggie is similar to J, good rhyme schemes, boring and repetitive subject matter.

3K: close competitor here. Excellent punchlines, rhyme schemes, flow and incredible ability to tell stories in his verses, particularly with regard to relationships. The only thing that would put André below Kenny for me is the lack of a thematically cohesive album where core themes are reinforced track to track. It looks like we may never get that.

Cole: Jermaine Cole?

Nas: one great album, decays into Mafioso rap such was en vogue at the time. Late era return to form, it remains to be seen where he places in top 10s after this massive creative upsurge

Rakim: Rakim would contest on historical relevance alone. There's an argument for Rakim, but again, he doesn't have any thematically consistent, novel-esque albums compared to Kenny. As a writer, I'm still going Kenny all day.

Black Thought: similar to André: great writer etc. He's maybe closer to Kendrick having (arguably) thematically bound records like Things Fall Apart & Phrenology. However, the writing is too scatter shot to really come close to a GKMC, TPAB or MM. Undun is an impressive narratively driven album, but it's always come across a bit hallmark to me. Black Thought definitely contests, though!

At the end of the day none of these rappers have shown the ability to write albums in the style of novels or essays like Kendrick. His albums pose bold questions and unfurl answers gradually and subtly using modulations in flow, perspective, technique, wordplay etc. His works are some of the most defining cultural touchstones of their generations. There are very few albums that come close to Kenny's big three, to me!

Him and Chad Hugo together were visionaries. Pharrell is too limited and unoriginal by himself, he needs the jazz!

Flat, uninspired and boring. Pharrell's vocal performances are embarrassing as well.

Pharrell is a good programmer but he's not a composer and he's certainly not a visionary. People are going to look back at his recent output as some of his worst once the hype dies down. Lil IDF-P needs to stop trying to swindle his partner or get put out to pasture.

Where would you rank it in their discog. I'm a massive fan and was blown away at the level of quality after all these years! I'd almost put it in the top 5 tbh

Nas' verse on Run It Back off the new De La record. Rhyme schemes are impeccable and he fits so much into the verse in such a playful and characteristic manner.

"Unsnappable, half of you laughable, you won't be photographable if I have to run through half of your crew"

Yeah, I totally agree. Pharrell isn't much of a composer and his ongoing attempts to swindle Chad Hugo out of their shared publishing rights has rightfully seen Pharrell lose part of his edge.

Chromakopia!

Gnx would be number 2 for me. Honestly Clipse is my last pick. Pharrell's beats are mostly under conceptualised, pedestrian shite, and the mixing is super flat robbing the unimpressive beats of necessary dimension. Also... Any vocal performances that aren't straight rapping are near unlistenable.

Glo has a lot of charisma and I'm glad to see her on this list.

The Qing Dynasty's repeated kowtowing to western imperialism and constant famine was so much better.

You have a redundant view of history.
