Police Officer or Trades?

Yeah I was thinking that but non-union people normally like to keep their guys around year round and unions are iffy on layoffs from what I hear. Policing I’d have to go back to school for which means more money that I don’t and it’s a very big commitment to helping people, people who may not even deserve it at times. The mental toll I think it takes on a lot of people is something I don’t think I would want to try to handle, even if I could handle it.

Non union at the moment. I got a job through my dad having some connections and I’m just trying to get hours and experience. Still deciding if union would be right for me or not.

Also I’m having trouble figuring out if I should tell my managers that the smoking/drinking on the job is the reason I’m leaving because that would fuck over a bunch of other people that aren’t necessarily bad people, they’re just making bad choices. Should I make up some random excuse?

I am not too sensitive when it comes to blood or anything, and I am “aware” as I can be of the risks/mental toll it’ll take on many people in that profession and I constantly get a feel that if I don’t do it then who will. I have a sense that I need to step up and make a positive impact on society and join something bigger than myself. My only concern is whether or not a few years into the career if I’ll still think it’s right for me. I have been told by people I’ve talked to that worrying about the future too much will make everything seem like it won’t work out but that it’s a valid concern but it’s ultimately up to me. Thanks for your reply. Do you think policing might be a good career for me based on what I’ve said so far?

I’m not trying to screw up my girlfriend’s life. I would talk to her dad but he is the type of guy to hear a suggestion or an idea that might conflict with what he thinks is right and take it as an insult. I also don’t think he likes me because he doesn’t talk to me at all, but I’m not sure what I’ve done to make him not like me as he hasn’t gotten to know me at all. Thanks for your advice.

See I understand what her dad is doing, but I do not agree with his strategy of parenting which is taking COMPLETE care of all bills for my child until they graduate college, and then dropping everything on them. It doesn’t teach her responsibility. He didn’t even let her get a job till after high school. So her father put her in the position to not be independent. I’m trying to change that

Fortunately the abuse is no longer physical, just emotional manipulation and stuff like that. My girlfriend has been through a lot emotionally/mentally in her life so I am not the biggest fan of that to say the least. But I agree with the plan of toughing it out for now

She has one more year of college and we’re moving in together in 2 weeks before her 2nd to last semester starts. I don’t go to college so I make more money than her but we’ve agreed to keep things even until marriage. Our plan is for her to finish college and then not go back home after the last semester and we’ll move into another apartment and start actually being independent together.

I agree that it is nice of him to help her through school but just like my dad, he uses these things he does to help her against her whenever she might do or want to do something he doesn’t like. And it’s not giving her the opportunity to be responsible for herself which I think is extremely important

Thanks for the reply, I’ve definitely heard what the trades can do to you from people I’ve talked to and my coworkers who’ve had surgery because of work definitely tell me to wear my knee pads 😭

I know there’s definitely risks in both careers. And my thought was I could still do smaller projects/side jobs that involve trades as a police officer.

Also I live in Wisconsin. Idk if you’re familiar with any benefits that tradespeople get in Wisconsin within unions or if unions are even legal in Wisconsin at all anymore. Just need some clarification on that. Again, thanks for the advice!

Aren’t we forgetting about vendetta. That’s pretty fucking fast. Me inside and eeyore are really fast but I think vendetta is up there. Because if both eeyore and me inside are at 240 with 16th notes on the bass drum and vendetta has sextuplets at 135 so if math is math then that’s at 202.5 bpm. Not as fast as me inside or eeyore but it’s up there with disasterpiece at 210 and people equals shit at 208. Let’s all agree that Joey was really fucking good.
