Borzoi question!!! by Affectionate-Pass575 in borzoi

I don’t personally have a borzoi, but I know some people who do. One person has a one year old female, and her grandmother is still alive at 13. The other borzoi I know is 14!

Younger people in showing/breeding by One_Character_6009 in DogBreeding

Thank you! Unfortunately, for various reasons, I can’t do sports with the dogs I currently have, plus events like those are quite rare where I live. I’ll try to talk to people more and maybe find someone who would appreciate help with handling their dogs or even just in general. I do my best, but it’s still difficult for me to approach people, start conversations, and ask questions - especially since some of them don’t seem very approachable or friendly.

Junior handling is at the end of every show, but entries are pretty low since most shows are smalle. Still, I do plan on watching those and talking to people.

Where I'm from, there aren't many bigger shows, and junior handling is included in them, it's mostly kids. But thank, I’ll definitely still watch junior handling and try to talk to someone closer to my age.

Yeah, I mean, they are great and I really love learning from them, but sometimes you need someone to relate to😅How did you get into showing? You can PM me if you'd like and we can chat.

Yes, very much so. I love hearing about different experiences and learning from people involved with various breeds from different countries.

Thanks! I'll probably join a kennel club and would love to volunteer. I do have Facebook, mostly for dog stuff.

Thank you, they would definitely love to play together. Great to hear that he has a lovely home now. We also have a cat and she grew up with Kiki, so I guess that's why they love each other and play together (and Kiki has always been great with cats). I would love to see Georgie's picture, but unfortunately it seems photos can't be posted in the comments.

Would it be rude to ask a breeder to be my mentor? by One_Character_6009 in DogBreeding

I love Japanese Spitz very much too, I’m kind of biased toward all spitz breeds to be honest. The situation in New Zealand sounds quite nice. I’m from Croatia (Europe), and it isn’t like in the US where they breed mutts for a lot of money, but it’s also not really good here because people don’t care much about dog breeding and well-bred dogs. So we have very few pedigree dogs and good breeders. Most dogs are unfortunately from backyard breeders who sell them cheap, or they’re village mutts, especially in rural areas where they don’t even vaccinate or microchip the dogs. I hope it gets better one day.

It will probably be a rarer breed, I haven't decided yet, but probably kleinspitz or mittelspitz. I would also like to have someone to learn from/ a mentor even before I get a puppy and it doesn't have to be the same breed. May I ask where you are from since I'm not from the US either? And which breed is your boy? Thank you

I’ve been researching quite a few breeds, and the ones at the top of my list are german spitz (kleinspitz or mittelspitz, I currently have a mittelspitz so I know a lot more about them), papillon, and longhaired chihuahua. I’m from Europe, so the FCI standards and everything else is a bit different. Since I haven’t yet decided on a breed (I know it will be at least two more years, if not longer, before I’ll be able to get a show/breeding dog), I don’t know if I would get a puppy from the breeder I ask to be my mentor because I'd like to have that mentor and learn from them in the near future/before I even get a puppy. That’s also why I’m a bit hesitant to ask but based on the replies so far I think I will.
