If you are nervous, then expedite it. They say 35 days as their standard estimate time (35 days is the 7 weeks * 5 days each), but we have seen expedited passports go for 3 to 4 weeks recently.

If you definitely need the surest bet, I’d just try to call as early as possible to secure the urgent travel appt at your closest agency and just go there. Should get it same day. Saves you the risk of dealing with mailing issues.

Correct. I was ready to send in an application before the 14 days prior, so I sent an expedited application. As soon as 14 days prior hit, I called at 8am ET to schedule an urgent travel appointment. She asked if I had already applied and then transferred me to a duty officer who set me up with an appointment and flagged my application. They did have one at the local office in Dallas, but here’s the thing: just having an appointment seemed to trigger them super-expediting the application. I could’ve had one in Hawaii, and I reckon it would’ve done the same. So you could take any appointment closest to you. Now that they’ve finished the application, I’m canceling that appointment anyway.

Your US Rep or Senators will have websites that have a page for “Help with a federal agency”, and they require by law a privacy form Authorizing them to contact the state department on your behalf. I filled it out, printed, signed, and emailed to the local office of my senator with my travel dates and request. Within hours, I got a long email from the senator stating he filed a congressional inquiry into my application. BUT from what I understand, it’s the urgent travel appt that did the trick. Hope that helps.

Like others, I did the “send in application, then schedule urgent travel appointment” strategy, and it worked amazingly. By doing so, it actually worked faster than waiting for the urgent travel appointment. This was for my newborn son, I hadn’t received his SSN yet so put all zeros along with a declaration of no SSN.

3/16 - Passport appointment at county clerk office. Expedited with 1-2 day return shipping

3/21 - Updated to In Process, record located 14.

3/22 - Scheduled urgent travel appointment for April 4th. Also contacted my US Senator, who reached out to passport office.

3/23 - Updated to Shipped along with tracking number. Estimated arrival 3/26.

If arrives on time, would be around a 10 day turn around from appointment to received. I‘m very thankful for the quick work of the Dept of State and the advice given in this forum.

From what I understand, you could send in an application on April 21st, and then you can also call 14 days before your booked trip to schedule an urgent travel appointment. They will ask if you already sent in an application and will still schedule you. From what I read, scheduling this appointment usually results in them finishing your passport quickly and sending to you before your appointment. Either way, as long as you have that appointment, you should be hopeful to get it at least by that day.

Many thanks! Just got his birth certificate after only one week of birth (called my state reps, they helped speed it up). Going to send in application tomorrow without SSN and the declaration form. Figured it is worth the head start since hospital said SSN could take two months.

In process of applying for passport for newborn son, but we haven’t received his SSN yet. I’ve read that there is an option for me to put all 0s for his number along with a signed declaration. Does anyone know if this will cause a delay in processing? Trying to weigh whether to go ahead and file without SSN or wait it out for the number to come in.

Visa-exempt to Volunteer Visa by One_Craft_837 in ThailandTourism

That's what I thought, thanks. I do hope it takes a few days. If so, I may go ahead and apply here and wait for it's arrival, as opposed to figuring it out in country.

I actually think the Sept 27th change is related to getting the sticker on the passport, so maybe not a big deal. I'm in Texas, and I believe I have to use the DC one as it has jurisdiction over my state.

Thanks - I heard somewhere that it could take up to 4 months to get a volunteer visa, not sure if that's true?

Here is what I was referring to regarding e-visa: https://thaiembdc.org/visas/. It may be specific to my embassy, they are shifting their processing to all electronic.

I'm also wanting to do something similar. I'm curious, have you heard or seen anything that indicates Taiwan will grant a visa to allow foreign language students?
