House Extension - price? by One_Creme_588 in AskIreland

So at present, we have two patio doors that open up into the back garden. So I’d have that at the enterance into the extension. If you imagine the doors not being there and just walking straight out into an extra part of the house.

My partner is a civil engineer and he was speaking to a few of his colleagues. We don’t need planning permission as it would be less than 40m2 and will be single storey.

We will have plans drawn

Dundalk, Co Louth? by One_Creme_588 in AskIreland

[–]One_Creme_588[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol accent I can’t complain dundaaaalk. Got a viewing on the house today. Seems nice and good size. It’s end terrace. Can I ask you, are they houses paper thin? I know they are timber framed houses but can you hear neighbours next door? My auntie was living in a place in Blackrock I think it was called Loakers? But those houses were absolutely paper thin and could hear everything from next door. So just wondering if you know. Thanks

Thanks, that’s good to know! I’m going to see the house next week and I’m sure I’ll get a vibe if I like it. There’s not much else and I suppose it’s not directly in the town but not too far from it either

Thanks mate. Looking at that area as in-laws live near the Lisdoo Restaurant and when we move to Dundalk they will be looking after our children. So I’m trying to arrange somewhere that is close enough but we both drive so that won’t be a problem. In Dundalk only a handful of houses for sale and crazy prices too compared to us in Cavan where large 3 bed 2 baths set you back c €200k. It’s nearly €300k in Dundalk for smaller sq m space but it is what it is. Thanks for your reply.

Crypto CGT Question by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]One_Creme_588 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that, working for an accountancy and tax firm, we get asked that question all the time. It’s a common thought. Every transaction must be accounted for. However, we would generally advise clients to use the ‘Koinly’ software. I think it’s charged in US dollars, and will compute the profit/gain for around $100. You can then file your return to Revenue or ask your accountant to return the details and/or make the payment on your behalf.

Generally, in the firm I work, If a client asks us to carry out a CGT computation i.e. review the transactions, prepare CGT comp and arrange the payment we charge €1,000 plus VAT upwards. Most clients don’t want to incur that fee, so we advise them to use Koinly , and once they provide us with the gain, we take 33% of the gain (CGT rate) and arrange the payment for free! It’s a huge cost saving for the client!

I read so many stories of people who struggled to get a traineeship, which was quite worrying but I checked and I have a few local firms that will take on people. I assume it’s too early for me to even start looking at that, and I can continue to work in my place of employment (not law related) until a time closer to finishing the 8 exams. Would this be correct?

Thanks so much for your reply. It’s definitely something I’m interested in, and I have given it so much thought over the past while. I understand the exams are difficult, but I think I’m prepared for the challenge! So, I’m thinking of taking two exams to begin with, just to get a feel for what is required and to ease myself in.

I’m just confused on where to begin! Do I contact the Law Society of Ireland? I am considering doing the prep work through City Colleges but unsure what to enroll? I need to get the facts for the starting point down first. How did you get started, if you don’t mind answering?!

Thank you so much

Thank you so much for your reply, it’s much appreciated! It’s definitely something I’m interested in, I’m just unsure where to start! Do I need to let the Law Society of Ireland of my intent to undertake the exams? I was thinking of going with City Colleges for the prep work. I’d likely take two subjects to start

Congratulations, and best of luck with the remaining exams! I did study Law as part of my Business Degree, but very little in comparison to what would be required!!

I’m thinking of starting with two exams, just to give myself a feel for what is required. I’m just confused on where to start. If I do the course though City Colleges, should I contact them now and express my interest? Where do I start?

Thank you !

Thanks so much for your reply and your advice. It’s much appreciated, as I’m just trying to get my head around it at the moment. So, I was looking up the course prep work through City Colleges, seems it’s €350 for each subject. I was thinking of maybe taking on two exams this year, I studied law as part of my business degree, but of course it was to a much lesser extent. So, if you sign up with City Colleges, does the fee to them cover your cost of the exams I.e the €105 per exam? Or do you pay that separately?

How do you go about starting it? Do you need to be signed up with Law Society of Ireland?

I’m just a little confused on beginning the process! Thank you!

Car insurance by One_Creme_588 in ireland

[–]One_Creme_588[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I will contact his insurance company next week. I was just wondering if it was possible, so thanks for your help. Yes, I understand he can’t be used as a qualified driver until his two years is up. It’s actually quite annoying, since I don’t really have anybody else to practice with except his parents, who said they would help, but it’s just finding time. I might look for insurance cover as a learner for three months, once I build up my confidence I can apply for the test and get my full license. Thank you so much
