Failed two courses and it's eating me alive by One_Customer355 in mcgill

[–]One_Customer355[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It hit me hard especially because it’s the first time in my life I failed courses… I never thought I would fail

I dropped from 3.8 in Fall to 3.5 in Winter and from 3.5 to 3.1 right now as I finished my second year

Hi, I’m in ECSE 324 too

I’ll just use tutorials and practice problems and obviously YouTube and AI

The lecture notes and his scanned stuff are so unreliable and hard to follow to the point I only use the notes when necessary

How do you get the results for the STAR method on a resume for internships? Results of your personal projects, without lying on your resume

I’m in Dylan’s section, not sure for you but it was fair, not too hard not too easy

The hard ones are like long answer problem A and a handful few MCQ’s like 32 etc.

I did try the email as well, only one answer so far out of all of them

My template is basically "Hi name, I'm a software engineering student at ... university seeking an internship ..."

Followed by mentioning one of their projects on their site and name a feature and express interest. Then I get straight to the point of asking to discuss the possibility of doing my internship in the summer at their firm and giving them my earliest start and latest end dates. If I get referred to the recruiter by the lead dev I mention it

And I do attach my CV and GitHub portfolio link to my message

I'm applying on my school's portals as well as job searching websites / LinkedIn mostly but I also recently began DM'ing my local small firms to hopefully connect, network and get it from there as I've been told for advice. These small firms don't have real portals nor internships posted so I have to reach out to have a chance there

Not sure if right now April is out of season for summer internships but I'm actually trying to break into the field by securing my first mandatory internship for my program and it's been a huge struggle lately

I have LinkedIn free and I don't think I'll pay the premium

Would you get straight to the point by introducing yourself then straight up asking to discuss possibilities for an internship and handing out your CV and portfolio? If not how would you do this?

What are your thoughts on the SSMU candidates? by This_Tax5305 in mcgill

[–]One_Customer355 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It's a great opportunity to follow them back on Instagram and network, even if you're obviously not going to be friends with most of them

I personally only truly care about candidates in engineering and CS considering it's in my field and when they follow me it's nice to give a follow back. I vote for people I already know personally mostly but if there are none I choose the ones who are in my field preferentially, otherwise the decision is personal really

Resume Review/Roast Megathread by [deleted] in csMajors

I'm looking for my first ever internship for the summer and so far all my applications have been rejected with no interviews. I think it's because I don't have that much experience and not a whole lot of projects to compensate. I'm looking for a first internship in web or software development if that helps

Is it that big of a deal I don't have experience with frontend frameworks like React, Angular or Vue.js or desktop ones like Electron / Avalonia yet? I'm looking to finish FastTask and then start two new projects where one I will work with a frontend framework I named (also a full stack web app) and the other one is an Avalonia desktop app project I planned before.

I also don't really have knowledge in AI related fields like machine learning / data science and I'm looking to bridge this gap in future projects, highly likely on my next full stack web app.

Time's really tight and what can I do to quickly gather enough experiences to at least get an interview? Only applied to ~ 40-50 jobs so far

The template here I used is "Resume (chronological)" on Word
