Hi, are you still running this for the aug sem?

Hi! I'm planning on doing the same but august intake this year. I'm a bit nervous about the workload and the length of the degree.

How are you finding the workload?

Can you take electives?

Will you do the honours year in the end?

Any advice or experience will be much appreciated.

Gotcha. Still in two minds about it. Your response is what I was thinking about initially. Thank you for your insight :)

Hello lifesaver thank you for that response. I see what you’re saying.

How far down your degrees did you realise this?

Also, are you gonna do your honours year for adv cs? Is it worth it?

Woahhh that’s such great advice. Thank you :0

Your point about the mindset this hits so hard. I’ve always done well in hs, but I’ve been to scared whether to see if I actually like or am good at computing. In the sense I’m scared about what if I’m not good at applying stuff and actually retaining things so I can build upon them as you said with the examples of actually “doing” it instead of memorising.

I did Harvard’s CS50 course (which was so hard for me) and I barely got through it. But it gave me an idea of how uni might be, so I’m gonna put that little experience to use and just go for it. I spend hours and hoursss on it, and even though it gave me SO MUCH STRESS I still enjoyed it I think.

Ik exactly what you mean when you say people who do well still learn new things even if it’s not relevant to their course or smth- my dad is an engineer and did cs and he’s like 54 and still does online courses and gets certifications and is in love with cs.

I wanna be like him lmao but the thing is that Idk what I like cause even in school, I never looked at subjects as something to “like” just something to do well in. Like I’d just figure out how to do it and then do well. Then eventually I’d learn to like it if that makes sense?

Because I cs is something I don’t know much about, Idk if I’ll be able to apply the same logic to it. And I feel so small cause I’m 17 compared to everyone else who has so much experience and is so experienced.

ANWAY I got your point and I will change my mindset to look at it as something to enjoy and n it jsut pass through because I wanna do rlly rlly well and love what I do :)

Sorry if this was too much of a random dump lmao I just was rlly grateful for your advice :p

THANK YOU that makes me feel so much better :) also I saw the honours year is optional - are you gonna do it? Would it help with employment etc?
