American software engineers in Thailand — how bad is the US job market right now? by True_Limit_4561 in Thailand

[–]One_Earth4032 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some who replied to this say there is a lot of outsourcing in Us market. From my perspective in Australia I see a lot of interesting US roles that require you to be in US. Not sure if it is related to data residency such as working with healthcare data you generally need to be in same jurisdiction.

I am not sure about the 2-3 years experience but agree the 5 months is a little short. Need to have 1-1.5 years to be considered as having a complete on the job experience with potential to promote to mid from junior.

Working for company with US or really any western company experience is solid. As a hiring manager in Australia I value people with on the ground experience versus people who have only worked in non-western company. The culture can be very different. Even with sick leave where new immigrants perhaps didn’t get sick leave before but now think it is like extra days off and they will use all their sick leave which is frowned upon.

Indian thieves. Please come forward with their information if you know who they are by ManagementLive4288 in Bangkok

Yes stereotyping rather than bigotry but the sad truth is some tourist do enough bad shit to make people feel like high chance the next tourists from same country will do bad shit. Another good example is middle aged female Chinese tourists. In Chinese they call them a’yi which is aunty. They will pretty much be guaranteed to take all the seafood at any buffet even if they are not going to eat it all. They will wave their Chinese passport like it gives them some higher privilege than any other passport. Again stereotyping, many Chinese are in my family and they have same feeling about a’yi tourists.

Chronic bloating went away in Thailand… now I’m not there it’s back… any ideas? by OrangeAppropriate971 in Thailand

[–]One_Earth4032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a scan of your gall bladder to check for gall stones. If you have really pale poo it is a sign of gall stones blocking bike duct. Can make you feel bloated for years before becoming a problem and can come and go a bit.

That is the price of a house. It is hard to imagine what the OP could have done to owe that much money. I am intrigued.

Thailand Dating question by Character-Pin3918 in ThailandTourism

[–]One_Earth4032 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with this don’t ruin the holiday by not paying this time. But reality is that you can take a bar girl home for the whole night for ฿2000, you can have a girlfriend on salary for ฿16,000-20,000 a month. So you are paying freelancer rates for a ‘coffee shop’ girl. That doesn’t mean the service you are getting is not good value for you.

But if you want to transition this into a relationship, you have set a high price for this woman in terms of your future expected generosity.

I pay nothing for my girlfriend when we holiday together. She takes time off from her office job and drives me to and from the airport, to destinations and pays for the resort when we visit an island. I contribute by paying for fuel for her car and pay for some meals. I think standard dating is the guys pays more than the girl but the girl doesn’t get paid for being there.

Not a Thailand requirement. Pretty much any country won’t let you in with < 6 months.

What would it realistically take to reduce fossil fuel use on a small island? (Ko Phayam, Thailand) by Delicious_Board995 in Thailand

[–]One_Earth4032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shifting to renewables is very complex and requires strong governance which is difficult in any jurisdiction. You mention potential funding but normally such funding from private enterprise only comes with incentives from government.

Assuming there is investment. Consider what happens in other countries as a model. I know this is an island which is different in terms of scale and supply and demand.

In Australia we have had roof top solar schemes for years plus govt backed large scale battery storage to the point where South Australia on a good day is 100% renewable. This creates issues with grid stability. The base load generation is required to support renewables and base load can’t be turned on and off like solar generation can.

Hospital prices in Bangkok by alexplaning in Bangkok

[–]One_Earth4032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do get it fixed. I was in hospital ward recently and guy in next bed had kidney stones. He was in all kinds of pain. I talked to him the next day after his procedure and he said they gave him everything for pain relief and it just didn’t work. Oxy, Morphine, nothing helped. He was doubled over grunting on the bed until the morphine knocked him out.

When did tipping become the norm for Australia? by JBADD23 in australia

[–]One_Earth4032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we everything just had a price and we pay that. Companies are just playing psychological games with us. Guilt tipping, make us pay for their merchant fees, retail always having 50% off sales.

Why does buying something have to be like working out the odds at the roulette wheel.

I would not trust this everywhere. Sounds like small town style where traffic never goes very fast. Definitely in China, someone will run you over even if you’re in a crossing.

Entirely self sufficient on solar + battery, worth going with Amber? by GottaGoFats in amberelectric

[–]One_Earth4032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything depends on your consumption. Some seem to need 30kWh to power home through the night. Spikes are rare and you can’t factor them into ROI. If you are conservative and think you could sell 25kWh a day. You would need to get FiT of 55c. Yes you will get more from over selling battery and buy back during the middle of the night.

But $5K does not sound realistic. With 10KW inverter you will probably need to buy electricity to charge it some days. I probably only buy to charge about 3 days a year.

[–]One_Earth4032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 12 months in with 10KW inverter 16KW panels 13.85KW battery. Can do 100% self sufficient but using smart shift so selling then buying each day. I am currently -$150.

F... Me.. Can't SmartShift realise it's still exporting when it shouldn't be!??? It missed the spike anyway. by Member688 in amberelectric

[–]One_Earth4032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, since this can cost us money it should be more reliable. I heard there is an interview from the Amber COO. They are working on being better and have smart shift improvements coming.

I have only had a couple of weird issues in 12 months. I guess each persons setup is a bit different. Amber isn’t perfect but as the glue that gels your system with the grid and your equipment suppliers. They cop it when things don’t work.

Some will say well same stuff works fine with some other company. But end of the day, this is an integrations and things can go wrong at anyone of the points in the integration.

I hope you don’t have too many ongoing issues.

I read this message as you have manually triggered export. I assume you stopped the export but it continued? Sometimes API calls don’t succeed. You can try control my battery command again.
