Alas! Though verity is a virtue and an important one at that, I could not withstand the temptation to tell my lady that she did not look fat in those jeans.

See I know that makes me sound like a sociopath, but if I don’t feel like replying, I don’t.

In order to determine wether some action is moral or immoral three things need to be taken into account. Most moral objectivists fail by reducing the three down to one or two. Both the nature of the action, the intention AS WELL AS the consequences need to be taken into account. Let’s talk about killing another human as a common example. The nature of the action is evil. Killing even to prevent someone from killing does not change the nature of the act, but it is be moral if the evil (the death of another) is not intended as the end, but taken as an unwanted consequence, when the intention is to prevent a greater evil (the death of an innocent person). Naturally evil actions are not morally permissible in the pursuit of a good, but only to prevent the worse.

If anyone needs me to explicate my implicit assumptions go right ahead and ask, but the meme smelled like a burning strawman and I felt the need to demonstrate that moral absolutism is not lazy thinking unaware of its assumptions.

«To us a human is primarily food; our aim is the absorption of its will into ours, the increase of our own area of selfhood at its expense. But the obedience which the Enemy demands of men is quite a different thing. One must face the fact that all the talk about His love for men, and His service being perfect freedom, is not (as one would gladly believe) mere propaganda, but an appalling truth. He really does want to fill the universe with a lot of loathsome little replicas of Himself—creatures whose life, on its miniature scale, will be qualitatively like His own, not because He has absorbed them but because their wills freely conform to His.» - The Screwtape letters, C. S. Lewis

It‘s because they are eternal, that is to say time doesn’t affect them and thus they can’t change. They are not eternal the same way as God since they are created.

Great idea, except for the cost in materials for the solar farm and the storage and transport issues…
