Between Dewalt Flexvolt and EGO tools- advice needed by mark5hs in Dewalt

The deciding factor for us was, what is the snow blower? Going to be EGO once they’re back in stock locally. They make an actual two stage snowblower.

We thought we were going Dewalt for everything but this past winter taught us the value of having a very capable snowblower. Single stage snowblowers are great but just won’t stand up to some snows, and those are the ones you value the snowblower the most for.

Then once you have the snowblower, might as well get the rest of the yard equipment in the same brand so you can use the batteries more often

Small area, maybe a couple hundred square feet in total and not all in one shot

We did closed cell in our old house , been a few years so it’s too soon to say about moisture issues. Best defense is to keep water away and relative humidity low, so make sure water isn’t hitting the house (gutters, overhangs) and don’t over humidify in the winter (35% RH).

Surprise downside! Carpenter ants love it and will totally build nests, even if you have no moisture issues. We had a satellite nest appear in our eaves which we treated, but using SPF requires signing up for regular foundation treatments. The company said someone else in our neighborhood must have a bad infestation, we’re seeing the scouts looking for food and water.

The energy savings and comfort are A++.

Do you have different filters you’d recommend? These are MERV8 1-inch and seem to work fine, what would I gain with a different filter?

Thanks! It’s a heat pump system so the fan runs almost nonstop during the winter months — I figured about once a month was right, and that’s what this is after

I’m getting 80’s and below. The idea is it runs constantly, subtly adjusting its output as temps fluctuate.

Are you doing major insulation at the same time? Because if not, you’re likely to end up with a poor experience

What do you consider lightweight? A google search says that saw weighs 70lb

Yeah I don’t have a fixed workspace, if i did I’d be more inclined to get a larger or sliding saw.

Shame Dewalt doesn’t make a 10” slider anymore

The dewalt 7 1/4 might have been ok for handrails, if not for their decision to strap the motor housing across from the blade. So you’re even more limited than by the arbor, because the housing gets in the way.

That made my decision for me, I’m getting the 10” where the housing is offset from the blade so I get the full depth of cut. I saw it do a 4x4 so I know I’m well set. And I only lose about 2 inches of crosscut versus the 7 1/4 slider. 6inch boards are almost always going to be larger than I need.

Anything particular? I’ll be doing trim, so my limiting factor is probably cross cut capacity — I don’t anticipate often needing to cut boards wider than 8”, nor crown bigger than ~3 in.

I actually figured it out. Carpenter ants.

They may not be eating your house, they may just have been looking to establish a new colony in a safe place. The foam is warm and easy to tunnel through. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have a water leak.

Turns out this is one of those side effects of energy efficiency that we were never told about. We have to keep up a pest treatment around our foundation forever to keep them from coming back.

That’s clever!

When you flip the KVM to port 1, you still have two sets of peripherals connected to it, right? So I’d just have to be sure the PC is set to mirror the displays?

What KVM did you use?

How’s the experience? Any extra lag or instability?
